Renault build quality!!

I was aware of the bad build quality of the 172s when i bought mine in october however i worked out today that my car has spent 1 day back at the dealers for every 300 miles its bin driven!!

If thats not sh*te i dont know what is!!

You either get a bad one or a good one.......seems youve got the former

Too early to say with mine, but it would seem that youve got a bad egg. Luck of the draw unfortunately. Its the same with nearly all manufacturers.

The only problem Ive had with mine so far is Rattles and Squeaks. But I was prepared for that. Im currently looking for volunteers to sit in the back to trace a really annoying rattle for me!!!. Ive managed to stop a couple of dash rattles, but for every one I stop another two appear somewhere else. I think Im fighting a losing battle!!!

If anything Ive been surprised at the build quality of my Clio. It seems very solid and well-built to me - I wasnt expecting it.

Ive got 2 rattles at the moment........3 when its cold !!!

mine are one from the centre console vents only at 3000rpm and at 4000rpm and the other a sort of rubbing noise at the top of the dash, when on bumpy roads.

Never had rattles, mind its never really bin on the road long enuff for me to notice!!!

I have had a good few probs too and so far I have had 150 worth of vouchers and a free service oh but they scratch my car every time it goes in!!!

My cars only been into renault twice, once for air-con, second for paint problem.

its now on 21K miles.



Like someone said its either a good or a bad one.. there doesnt seem to be a happy medium.

Touch wood, Ive never had a problem yet. Two Megane 2.0 Coupes, one Cabrio, Mk1 172, Mk2 Clio 1.5 dci and now the V6 and a Megane due for March.

If I do ever have problems I do fear that my dealer appears absolutely useless for repairs

When my Cup was new I had a few silly problems where it was back to the dealer every few weeks and was starting to annoy me.

But, they seem to have been just initial teething troubles which you can get with any car (usually Renault) and now at 6 months old it seems to be holding up well and aint been in for ages now!

Hopefully [touch wood] it will stay this way...



You just have to let them sort otu all these initial problems and hopefully yours will come good too!

I got my 172 used..so guess I am able to give some leeway on the rattles which appeared only after I got the car. Other than that, things are going smooth thus far. Great drive!

Andyman, I think we are experiencing the same sound from the centre console... anyways, I asked my agent about it and the mechanics confirmed that it is due to the exhaust and it is a characteristic of the car... what can I say?

With my first 172 the only problem I had was the washer jets popped out but that was no biggy. Had a few rattles but then the music was always too loud to hear them !

When I test drove my 2nd 172 (which I am picking up on the weekend) it seemed to have no rattles inside but then I was only in it for 10 mins.

Touch wood, I will not get any problems with it but then you never know.

had the engine mounts/suspension replaced due to clonking thats about it. Ive always got the cd player on so if theres any other noises i cant hear them.
