Renault Clio Steering Rack

Been told by my mehcanic my car needs a steering rack is this a common fault its very expensive have felt the car pulling abit but nothing major is he trying to rob me?

Very rare for a complete rack to go, get it checked elsewhere, it might just be ball joints or similar.

Where are you based?

I would be getting a specialist to check it over, will probably just need new inner tie rods and track rod ends.
