renault dealer help urgent

as some of u know ive got a valver, and the rachtet has snapped for the second time in a couple weeks, the clutch was really stiff before, i went down to renault and they said i need a new clutch, so i asked how much for a new clutch and they said £700 and that doesnt include the ratchet, and they also told me you cant buy ratchets no more when i bought one a day before, got a mate who works for vauxhall and he said to try a cable, so im waiting on that. but if thats not it than any ideas wot it could be before i buy a new clutch (not with renault) and does any1 know where i could a clutch fitted in the south west area for a good price?

You might have trouble finding a garge to do clutchs most places won't touch a 1.8/2.0 Mk1 but ring around and you should find one who will do it for about £300 all in.
WHen you say Ratchet I take it you mean the tensioner on the pedal?
£700 stupid money the parts are £60 or so. Howver its quoted as an 8.5hr time and at £70 an hour it adds up quickly.
I'd recomend using a proper Renault clutch though its so much better.
Chnage the fluid whilct your at it Royal purple seems the best but expensive I use Millers which is superb.

What your problem I still don't fully understand the issue?

basically i wanna know why the ractchet keeps snapping, do i need a new cluth, do u think the cable will help? and also where 2 get it done, and if i need a new clutch what kind of performance clutches are out there if any???
