renault garages are a joke

  clio 182
popped into renault on my way home the other day to ask about service intervals on a 182.
ive done 34500 in mine since new on an 05 plate, i guessed it would be nearly new, so anyway they said "yes its evry 12000 or evry 2 years" fair enough i was expecting that i guess, then came the shock i asked for a price.
they then told me i needed a accesory belt change at 36000, ok.
they they gave me a price
697.63p to change the oil, air filter, pollen filter and do the belt change.
nearly fell off my the chair, took the quote and laughed my way out of the garage.
how can renault charge over 110 pound an hour labour? it i had a bmw or something i'd kinda understand, i wouldnt pay it but i'd understand.
gimme your views pls.

That's why there's loads of Renualt specialists and you'll most likely get a better level of service of one of them.

  182, SQ7, Trafic
697 just for an aux belt change? you can get cam and aux belt done for less than that at a specialist!

  clio 182
any ideas on how i find a renault specialist then?
they are just useless in the garage for everyhting really, i need bodywork doing but they want me to take it to there body in london just for them to look at it. there enough to put me off buying a renault again.

you only just realised. common knowledge.

theres some good ones but you have to travel

ezra sugden worksop
wests bedford
nottingham

and 'bruns' one are the only ones i'd touch, sure theres other good ones but they are the only ones i directly know of.

Ask for a discount, they all try it on and were in a recession ! I did and paid £597 about 3 months ago, expect to pay more than a renault specalist though.

Also they informed me by phone whilst the car was in bits that the water pump was leaking and could replace for about £250 as already the car stripped as would cost £400 if done at a later time, difficult call being at work and unable to inspect, declined as I had not noticed any loss of coolant, 3 months on still no loss of coolant.

I know where I'm going next time, ur call and I cancelled a new car purchase from them.

Dissapointed when we've bought two new cars from them and also had the cars serviced there.

if they had to pull it apart then perhaps i mite understand a little but they trying to charge me 4 hours labour wen a mechanic friend of mine that used to work for ford said hed do it in 2 hours.
im an aircraft engineer by trade a nd i can remove and fit a new engine in 4 hours.
theyve taken the piss since the day i bought the car

They do have to pull it apart for an aux belt change and 4 hours for service and aux is about right. Aux books at around 2.5 IIRC.

  clio 182
well i did ask about they cambelt, and as it came out of my mouth 3 people replied " cambelt is due now untill 70,000. i like you guys thought it was 50,000 or 5 years but apparently not.

im confused on this too when are the proper service intervals for a 182

from what ive gathered
36k/5 years for accessary belts
72k/5 years for cambelt

there no other services that shoudl be done???

are there no annual services like all other cars???

The annual services are just basic 12k services.

is it meant to have annual services aswell then ye cos the log book for car one im looking at only says services every 18 thousand and doesnt give a restraint on time and is jsut under 36k so has only had one service but is an 04 plate.

  182 RB FF
u sorted a better price for yours yet cos this one will need the same service by the sounds of it with the cambelt to be done too as it is 5 years old soon

Just take it to a place you can trust (ie not kwik fit) it's just a Clio at the end of the day we aren't talkin about a merc/bmw/ferrari etc are we the technology in the whole car is ancient so pretty much any mechanic will know what he's doing, I fail to understand why people would want Renault stealers to service their car in the first place?

hi guys. i think i may be able to help out here. if you go onto the k-tec website (well known renault tuning and styling) and llok at their service intervals for a 172 or 182 the standard service time come in at 12,000 60,000 and 90,000 miles. in between these sevices you have your belt changes, being aux belt at 36,000 then cambelt at 70,000 or 5 years whatever comes first. they also do a service at 72,000 where thye will change the aux belt again and change plugs and your fuel filter.
so from what im reading those are the service intervals and not every 12,000 or 2 years whatever comes first like renault mug us all of for.
this is how i read it so let me know your opinions and share them with me if you think i may be wrong or even that i maybe right.
cheers.

our labour rate at work is £68+vat per hour

ive noticed quite a few specialists are now charging pretty much main dealer prices, so its worth getting a few quotes before writing off the dealers, yes its usually more but not always, and all the training and equipment costs a lot of money, you wouldnt believe how many calls we get from other garages wanting help diagnosing problems because there cheap fault code reader doesnt pin down the problem properly, one of the mechanics at our place has been working on Renaults since before i was born, im 27 in 2 weeks ! its scary the amount of stuff he knows

i almost wanted to start another thread because of what happened to me this afternoon.

Went to the officials, the Renault Dealer, to talk about my "whining + squeeling" . Told them only the aux BELT was done with Cambelt change by a specialist .

I said the Auxbelt-SET would have been a lot better , so i asked for their price of the set ; they looked it up in the computer using my cars VF1CB1ND etc. number to be sure the right parts would come up.

By now two people were helping me.

Suddenly they say; "well ; the specialist you went to actually did the job right because there is NO AUX-SET for your car ; the belt alone is what's changed so job done right ! "
"No set available?" i asked .. "No sir, no set for your car available"

..... :eek::clown:

;) I thanked them very much and left before i got angry at the fact that customer knows more than them , who are supposed to be the "pro's"

Now right after i gave my specialist a call, told him that since he done the belt there is a squeel etc. First thing he asked me : "did we do the AUX-SET on your car or just the belt ?"

Might be just a 'Clio' but have you read the numerous threads about back street garages doing cambelt changes? - They can do it yes but expect to loose 20bhp in the process due to not being timed up correctly.

on quite a few CB1N vehicles thats CORRECT, there is NO Aux kit

so im afraid in this case, the customer does NOT know more than the 'pros'

How come my regular Renault specialist who has a big knowledge of the Renault sports, RS + V6 +the like , tells me about the set ? Actually asking me if the SET was done on the car ?

People on here who are also known for repairing/tuning the cups were also talking about a set ?

I will take back what i said rapido if i'm proven wrong.. ;) But i have been at the Reno-dealer servicedesk before once with another little problem and it was just funny how you are answered on some tech things

Got a quote from my local Renault garage (Sherwood, Nottingham) for a new AUX and Cambelt fitted on my 182 - they quoted £795. For the same work a Renault specialist in Grantham quoted £600.

(For a 36k service alone Renault Sherwood wanted £365).

Jeeezz i'm thinking the Cup does'nt have the tensioners because no aircon !?!?

 my bad ??

exactly, hence NO kit, the only thing available is the aux belt, IIRC its tensioned off the alternator

i do actually work in parts and ive been asked this before, so i dont care who has said otherwise lol :p

its correct that nearly all Renault cars from 2001 -> have Aux kits available, but not all
