Renault Sport Megane 225

Sorry to post something off topic but I was hoping for a little advice, I currently got a Corolla T-Sport which will be nearly two years old in March and I an keen to change it for one of the more powerful Hatches now on sale. I have considered a 255 Clio but I just can glue 24-25K on a car at the moment and it would not be practical either, so what are you thoughts on the 225 Megane as this is a Renault Sport forum thought it would be the best place to ask!

I like the exclusivity as there are not many on the roads and there’s some amazing offers been made by the Internet firms at the moment. I driven one and loved it but is the build quality as good as my Jap Toyota, I remember the Renault Sport Badge fell off on the car I drove when I closed the door but that could of happened to any car I suppose!

I also think the car looks great in the dark blue!

build no the megane is pretty damn good. i test drove the 225 and although the steering was way to over assisted for my tastes it was indeed a rocket ship.

Id have serious concerns about spending 20k on a car where bit start falling off when you close the doors :devilish:

Im not really a fan of the looks of the Megane. So much in fact that alone would put me off but apart from that theyre supposed to be good especially if you can pick one up for around 17-18k. Id also recommend trying out a civic type-R as Ive just bought on and I think its the mutts nuts (though obviously Im massively biased!) but from the sounds of your post you want more power than 200bhp.

You might want to hold on until next year as theres loads of cool new hot hatches in the pipeline. You could go for are the forthcoming Ford Focus ST/RS both of which are rumoured to be getting over 200 bhp and the next Seat Leon Cupra R based on the new VW Golf platform should be seriously good as itll likely have around 240 bhp. The new Mitsibushi Colt evolution is rumoured to be out later next year aswell with over 200bhp and 4WD.

yea but the megane is 225bhp so it is over 200. + its a 2.0T so it will be easily tunable.. ecu upgrade will see 250bhp and 160mph top speed

uprated intercooler sports/decat + ecu.. shall see 270 bhp !

all cheap mods + throttle bodies on top of that will see near 300bhp !!!!

the megane has a 0-62 of 6.5 thats with traction control on !! with it off it would be faster more like 6.2 and that means 0-60 will be 6.1/6.0 !!!!

the wrx impreza with the same bhp and 10kgs more kerb weight can crak 60mph in 5.8 due to 4wd, but the megane can nearly equal that on a good launch.

safety is exellent, not people will buy which is great for individuality and the ride comfort + equipment is exellent too. not keys just a card in your wallet that you never need to touch ever !! just walk up to the car and its open. close door, put foot on break push the STARTER BUTTON hehe.

16.5K for a brand new one also on the web from buymynewcar.com

cant complain

Whoops...

I would buy from a local deaer, who will then look after you should anything go wrong.

They will also look after you for things like wee rattles etc (which the car will develop over time)... courtesy cars.... squeezing you car in (even when theyre upto their eyeballs)...

My experience with those internet companies is not good. You cant even see the car before you buy it. If its dented, they dont wanna know. All for a difference of 20 pounds a month (over 5 years or whatever)..

Buy a UK car from a UK dealer with 10 airbags in it (3 door). Then you can sell it as a UK car from a UK dealer.

err..

i was going to mention the bit about the Racelogic switchable traction + launch control for a few hundred notes. i wouldnt be supprised to see Renault updating the RS next year with switchable traction, but sod that get it done by racelogic + have very best launches all the time with the integrated launch control feature. then you will see those times of 6.1 to 60 pre engine modifying.

(btw launch control usually helps shave 4-5 hundreths of a second off)

I agree with buying from a main dealer, I wouldnt buy from a Internet dealer but it gives you a good idea on what sort of discount to expect!

I drove a 225 Megane and I was totaly bowled over by its performance, as it was turbocharged the power was there when you wanted it unlike the Toyota were it feels like a normal Corolla until you hit 6200RPM and then you feel your driving a 192BHP hatch!

I have been thinking about a Civic Type-R but again to use all the cars power you have to thrash it within a inch of its life!

  Tappd'd RS

^^^^ Yes to get all of its power, but Its not too bad below the vtec either, just not as torquey as the clio or megane
