Hi All,
My daughter has bought her first car a 52 reg Clio 1.2 16v. Unfortunately within hours there were signs of a bad oil leak on the drive. We traced the initial oil leak to a split N/S drive boot where it meets the gearbox.
After fitting a replacement J&R drive shaft we thought the leak was fixed.
Point to note with drive shafts, make sure you have the correct number of teeth on the ABS ring otherwise the clock reads fast and the ABS and service lights come on!! J&R were good and sent free of charge a new ABS ring (26 teeth) which was easy to fit and all was well.
Anyway the next day we realised that the leak had not totally gone. On investigation the selector shaft seal is leaking. I have read the forums and apparently they all leak to some degree but this leak is too bad to ignore.
I have purchased a kit from TND via my local Renault dealer and intend to fit it soon but having read the instructions and trawled the forums there are a few questions I have before I start and I hope someone will help.
1. Has anyone changed the kit with the gearbox on the car and did the gearbox oil need to be removed?
2. Does the selector arm need to be fixed in a position whilst changing the seal so that the gears remain meshed. Does it damage the gearbox moving the selector arm with the gear selector rods disconnected?
3. My biggest question - When fitting the retaining bracket supplied with the kit, what happens when the to the the spring bolt assembly is removed from the gearbox? Does this engage with the gear shaft in the gearbox or does it just come out without worry? If the gearbox is full of oil will the oil pour out when the spring bolt assembly is removed?
