Are their any North West Performance... garages around your area?

You should take it to a specialist, not worth risking it with any local garages!

I did a williams 1 a couple of months ago that was on original belts and 60k on the clock. One owner from new, so it's not like it was lost paperwork or anything. thats 16 years old !!!

just goes to show that all the scare mongering about cambelts is just fishwives tales. sure some can go but that the luck of the draw. belts can last for years!!!

I am scared to use it! Noisy dephaser aswell!! Will get a project thread up as soon as! But wasn't out of the renault sport fold for long, wasn't intended, it was local, and price was ok, i like having things to faff with!

wouldn't go that far, the aux belt was crumbling, and the idler pulley was completely shot. ticking timebomb

I bought a 1990 G reg 205gti in 2008 on original belts, nursed it home from London and got belts and water pump done immediately! The alternator belt was severely perished

i got a 1998 306 d turbo in 2009, 103k original belts. they were shot to s**t when i took the off, there was about 10mm of side to side movement in the aux tensioner.

yeah i know but that was a 16yr old williams!, 5yrs as per renault guidelines is precautionary.

newer engines use plastic pulleys which are prone to cracking. They, along with aux belts that like to shred, are the bigger issue. Yes there's a built in safety margin in the 5 year rule. Some new cars will have sat for 2 years before being registered. Some cars are running a 100k/10 year interval now, technology is moving on

I see a lot of mk1's, I did the cambelt on "the imperial" recently. Bit of a blast from the past, was the first clio I ever worked on about 11 years ago

i've just picked up a 2000 X plate 172 with 64k on the clock which i assume is still on teh original belts as ive got no reciepts to say otherwise.

Need less to say that'll be getting changed before i start using it!!

When I bought my 172 I had no idea the cambelt was such an issue. And such a costly one. Bought it this year it's an 02 on original belts. I was absolutely papping myself on the drive to Birchdown from Leeds. Had a good blast on the way back though!

just got my 182, 110K Kilometers/ 6 and a half years (68k miles)... parts were used but did looks like they were going to seize or snap. Yes i saved some $$ getting an unserviced one. Mechanic in the family...
