Replace Clio 182 with what

Thinking of changing my 182 for something else in the next 6 to 12 months.

What do you think of the following choices? What would you go for?

1. Another Subaru WRX PPP or STI (my last car before clio 182)

2. New Astra VXR

3. New Seat Leon Cupra R (apparently also 240bhp)

4. Mazda RX8 (231)

5. New Focus ST

6. Mitsubishi Evo VIII 260 (not the 300, 320 etc - insurance and maintenance too high)

New leon not an ugly big people carrier?

I hate RX8s with a passion... New Golf R32 sounds promising!

  Octavia VRS

yeh wouldnt get new leon looks crap imo

gotta be an evo VIII for me

or the golf!

There is always the new Civic Type R due out towards the end of the year?

I quite like the look of it as well, doesnt look like a bread van!

So many choices???????????

Golfs are slower than clios - loads of potential tho!

I dont reckon theres much out there thats faster, within a reasonable price range. Has to be an evo for me.

Looks like its going to be the EVO VIII 260.

You can get one 12 months old with less than 10,000 miles on the clock for under £17,000. Sounds like a bargain to me!

  Weeman sucks ****

the new astra vxr looks promising. ive been in an r32 and theyre very nice, bloody quick but they do chew tyres up.

  Elise/VX220/R26

Astra VXR for me even as a dedicated megane 225 owner, the VXR is worth it just for looks alone. Get one in red.

New CTR wont be out till middle of 2007 if it is ever made (nothing confirmed yet) I would get standard Golf GTi and get it chipped.

Simple really:

EVO -> RX8 -> Scooby

No to anything FWD

Obviously IMHO!

Interestinly enough the VXR has just been trounced in group test over here in France. It was up against the CTR, LCR, Golf GTI and Megane Trophy.

1. CTR & Megane Trophy

2. Golf GTI

3. VXR

4. LCR

They said it was good but not that much quicker for a car with 240 BHP and said it wasnt as focused as the top three. You pays your money!

Thanks for the feedback so far!

That was interesting about the VXR, I thought it would be pretty special.

I am edging towards either the EVO 260 or the Subaru WRX with PPP fitted, mainly as they are both very practical it terms of space and performance - I must be getting old!

I will wait and see the right up on the new Focus ST, it is supposed to be quicker around the ring than the RS Focus without some of the issues that were previously highlighted. Insurance should be pretty cheap and so should maintenance as its a Ford.

Thanks again

New Focus ST is 12 seconds faster around the Ring than the Focus RS!

New Subaru WRX STI will have 280 bhp (2.5 litre engine) with 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. This is without the Prodrive performance pack.

Very Tempting!!!!!

I agree, however it is fwd.

The subaru should p**s all of it on acceleration and handling particularly in the wet. The Subaru will have 280ish BHP as standard so with the Prodrive Performance Pack you will be looking in excess of 320 BHP with a full manufacturers warranty intact. Some sources are stating that 350 bhp is more likely!!!!!!

cant believe ford dont have something competing with the likes of scoobys and evos.

imagine an escort cossie today if it had stayed in production ! i would imagine that would be some serious machinery

Just a thought in connection with the Focus ST, Blue fin used to do a plug and play chip for the focus RS which gave another 20 or so BHP, does anyone know if these are likely to be available for the next focus ST?

One real benefit of the Ford is the Insurance. The Ford Focus has just won an award for its security. The Focus RS was insurance 16 so the ST should not be any higher.

Compared to the Subaru (group 20) the savings will be immense. Plus in addition I had a WRX (bug eye) before the 182 and Tesco insisted I had a Tracker fitted. That alone is another £300 installation and £10 per month.

I think i would be tempted by the meg 225 with the new cup pack. i know its a reno but at less than 16k with the cup pack OTR, group 17 + chip for say £500 (when available) that would probably see 260 bhp, great handling and all the lux.

didnt the trophy beat a boxster s round the track at some point ?

Subaru apparently are attempting to shift their stock levels for 2005. I have been told they are offering Subaru WRX and WRX STI both with free Prodrive Performance Packs at cost price!!!!!!

Does anyone know what cost price is likely to be?

Trophy beat Boxster S When was that?

That was quoted by Tiff Neddle* when he timed the laps while driving the 182 and the CTR. Apparently the 182 beat the Boxster S and the Ford Focus RS around that track.

I dont want to be dragged into a debate about that, I cant stand machoness around cars, I do understand on a different track you may have had a different outcome.

go for the Evo, its a better engine and stronger bottom end and they dont look as sh*t as the new scoobs, they lost it after the classic imo... such a shame

It was the porsche Boxster 2.7 not the S vervion which has the 3.2 litre engine.
