Replacing 172 alarm keys

You can program the key yourself if you have the red emergency by-pass key.
If not, you need the CP1 programmer.
Its a box with a lead that pushes on to the LED and accesses the program.

Any BMW/Renault/Subaru dealer will have one as Will a Sigma dealer.

I've got a keypad above the windscreen, which according to the instructions allows multiple keys to be entered using the security 4 digit code. However it doesn’t state whether or not a used key would work. I presume if I got a new alarm key, it would be fine.

You need to check with the supplier that it is a Renault compatible remote. As some were made specifically for BMW and have a different rolling code algorithm.
