Resetting ECU/Clearing faults

Car  '14 Touareg, '14 GTi
Would disconnecting the battery for a period of time clear any previous faults logged within the ecu memory?
Car is a 52 reg Clio 172 Cup.

TIA

Rgds,
Byron

Nope, doesn't reset it. And all fault remain logged until they are read/cleared with a renault clip computer. You can read/reset some of them with an obdii interface though.

Why you asking? Can be more specific then.

Ok.
Car interminttantly refuses to start. Sometimes fires then dies, other times wont even turn. Not even giving it gas maintains an idle.
Fitting a new battery tonight as the current one is OE from new - good charge but the AA think the battery maybe half the problem.
Sounds like an immobiliser fault to me? Wouldnt be uncommon either.

doubt it, if it was immobilser it wouldn't ever turn over. Checked the crank position sensor? Its usually the route of non starting, do you get fuel and spark when it won't start?

if its a ph1 172 the car turns over, runs for half a second and then cuts out, then will not start, you then need to lock/unlock using the remote, to start the car

and if the car is left over 5 mins it automatically alarms it self, and wont start until you lock/unlock
