Respaying 172 bumper...what do i need to get?

  FN2 Type R GT
hiya,

just been offered a 172 bumper for a good price however its in cup blue and i want to respray in black but dont want to spend 70/80 with a bodyshop.

What will i need to do? is it as case of following the guide on here about respraying a spoiler? or will i need to do anything different?

oh and what tools/ bits will i need?

Cheers

Best to get it done in a bodyshop imo, i ve done my bump stripes following the guide but their not exactly perfect which you'd want for the whole bumper - much better to find a decent bodyshop and pay out seeing as you can then get other bits done in the same batch for much less.

You'll be spending 70 or 80 quid to get it sprayed in materials if your starting with nothing. You'll need high build primer, a tin of colour (maybe 2), a couple of tins of laquer, a range of different sand papers, and really to get a good enough finish you'll need a polisher of some sort. Also if depending on the colour of your car the spray can be a b**ch to match (especially silver). Also bare in mind you cant just buy halfords paint, you'll need the professionally mixed stuff at a cost of 11 quid a tin. You'll also need a big enough space inside to spray in this weather.

as mid says, you'll spend that in materials alone.

i wouldnt paint a bumper with aerosols unless there was no other choice, blow ins sure, but not full colour change, it will never be perfect.

It works out cheaper to get a pro to do it, and you know with them its going to look right, depending that you have got a 'professional'

better to let the pro do it rather than make a mistake doing it yourself and having to start over and buy everything again ;)

better to be safe than sorry :D

oh :(

is 60 pounds a good price for a 172 bumper in cup blue? might just sell it on to make a bit of cash to put towards a standard black one! how much do you think i could sell it on for?

60 quid is a good price, prob wont get more than 80 quid for it though if you sell it on

Yeah good price! My quote was off a mate aswel. Not too sure how much a non rs rear bumper is worth. Im going to sell mine soon when i have pics

its the rear one...

I might also be able to get hold of a mint silver one, looking more round the 100 mark?
