Cheapest way to fix it would be buy a second hand engine for approx £300 and have someone fit it for cheap. If you can get the car to Surrey, I'll supply and fit an engine for £500. 70k. FSH and had cambelt done 2 years ago..

when was the belt done Donna?
Hello?
If it's bent valves I'd snap Budgie's hand off for that engine at £500! If it's not and the garage are trying to be sneaky I'd just say you've got a decent price on the engine fix so thanks but no thanks.
And I wouldn't use Shiply's anymore for transport! There's a recent thread with some guy from round your neck of the woods who's had the worst experience ever from them, take a look at it - don't want to make a bad situation worse!
No it'll stay what it is now, at the end of the day if you get a decent condition secondhand engine (internally and visually) and its changed over well/properly without fvcking everything up then no one will be able to tell without checking the engine number against the V5. Which hardly anyone will ever do and they are quite difficult to read without removing other stuff so you won't have any problems selling it on at a later date.Whats the deal with mileage and new engines, is the mileage changed on the ECU?
I presume so??
I had a thought the same garage wanted £400 for a CAT, i bought one from cats4u or whatever it is, for £100!!
I presume so??
Its had services, am i supposed to know what is done and when?! It was a good few years ago, they havent been changed in the last 2 years.. I never used to use the car much, so was done on age rather than mileage!!
I haven't come on here to be slated, its had the f**king things changed, its been serviced when it should have been!!!
Sorry Fred, been using on my phone and skimmed replies.
I don't think its ever been done, so probably why its died!
I was having a natter with the old dear and probably best to go with replacing the engine.. The guys havent even looked properly but he's said i'm not looking at getting much change from £800..
Makes sense I guess :S
& ta i'll have a look, havent even see the Shiplys site to be honest.. Am i bette getting a flatbed or towing it? Mother has a huuuuuuuuuge truck, but i assume you can't tow on a motorway!!
