Road Legal 182 Clio Cup Racer?

Possibly buying an ex clio cup racer shortly, 182 type. Does anyone know if any have been made road legal, cant see there being a big problem doing so, i know a few mk1 16v cup cars have been made legal. Car is to race next year but i'd really like to use it at the ring, thats the only reason for making it road legal. Anyone got any info to help me out? Thanks.

Circuit Days are running a Ring Trackday in Nov.

I was thinking of taking my Cup on that rather than going the road legal route, which would be a pain just for the ring IMHO.

Good luck with the Cup, hope you have deep pockets ;)

Yes, I fancy the combined trip, and my do this if I can find another driver I can trust with "Nicole" to share the costs.

If not this year, then definately next.

The car itself is great fun, and the sequential box is a good laugh. I just need to learn how to drive now :clown:

The Mk1's are easy to make road legal realy just need a few forms and a horn.

The Mk2 your looking at need a few more bits but there nothing serious at all then SVA it.

When I was at the ring earlier in the year, there was a road legal clio cup race car there in white. Looked ace!

Edde, thats what i figured, only thing that concerns me is if it needs a model report for sva. Hopefully it'll go through as a regular 172/182, just might need to swap some bits to standard for the sva. Do you have any other info that might be helpful, can pm me if you want, thanks.

Don't need anything for SVA approval put it in like a kit car and get on a Q plate then it doens't need an MOT for 3 years as its deemed a new car as such.

I drove a 182 cup car the other week at Bedford Autodrome on a PalmerSport track day.

Absolutely awesome bit of kit, thought it was the most fun car out of the whole day!

Was surprised at how different it felt to my road going 182 though

Nice find Dai, wonder what spec it was if it was just standard or not, expected it to be on the limiter in places but it didn't seem to be, what does yours do flat out in 6th approx? Pretty quick lap 8.45btg with all that messing around at the start/T13 as well.

No idea on the speed, it does not have a speedo?!?!

However, was flat in 6th around the back of the new Angelsey GP the other week, which felt fast but do not think it was.

Was clocking 135mph in a few places when I went to the ring last year, but that was in the scoob. Do not think the Clio would clock that speed.

The more I think about this the more I think - I have to! Desperately working on finances;)

Not quite as simple as that though is it? Have stupid rules like hight of headlamps, interior protrusions, noise + emissions etc. Dai, clio cup will do them speeds in a few places, my teg does 140 in a couple of places so i'd expect the clio to be similar. My road 172 touched 130ish in the same places too thinking about it, straight before schwendencruz and down foxhole.

The headlamps, properly installed could easy be set to the correct height, as non xenons dont have ballast. The interior is the same as on a 172 almost, would be easy to sort anything interiorwise that would fail. Thing that put me off was lhd :(

For emissions/ noise etc, just find a friendly mot tester...

Id dont think they have a reverse gear either?

Why dont you just put the cup racer on a trailor and transport it like that?

Im fairly certain it isn't illegal to not have reverse as i have a westfield megablade without reverse and that passed its sva.
As for knowing a friendly mot tester for the emisions, this isnt possible as its the sva that matters and they are not usually the sort of people to bend the rules :( !!

we've turned quite a few race cars into road legal
give us a shout if you want to know anything, there's a few tricks/short cuts

Fantastic - slowly learning how to get the best out of it on the track. Totally different to the scoob.

Got a few leaks currently, so trying to source a replacement master cylinder. If you know part numbers etc let me know. R-Sport not responding currently.

Did not realise yours was the black V6. Very nice indeed.

That must be fun if you wanna do a 3 point turn lol

Ours just touch 140 down the main straight at the Hungaroring esp when slipstreaming, good fun to bump people down there on a who dares wins for the hairpin!

Now we're getting somewhere, thanks for all the info guys, didn't realise they were geared as high as that thought they'd maybe only do 120ish. Fred, probably be giving you a ring when i get a car sorted out. Thanks again.

They do have a few different gearboxes so depend what box you have fitted.
