Roof scratches/marks/lines

Hi,

My roof is full of scratches and marks like this...

There are also lines that look like it's had stripes on at some point. My phone camera won't pick them up

Can anyone offer any knowledge on how to correct the marks please?

Thanks in advance,

Si

Could you not have washed the roof first lol.

A good going over with a decent polish by DA should see a decent improvement.

Looks like the Saharan sand we've had recently. You'll need to decontaminate with iron x, Tardis and clay. The polish. The scratches look jolly deep so I'd take it to a pro.

Thats bad mate, it wasnt like that when geordie had it, or atleast when I gave it a once over with the machine polish

I don't know what's caused it man. I noticed it the first time i washed it and i haven't had the courage to do anything about it till now haha

Tree sap, mixed with saharan sand and hard water. Basically it's not had any protection for some time.

Our water is pretty hard up here - Lots of lime in it.

I'll have a go with iron x, tar remover and clay etc. and see what happens. Might leave the polishing up to an expert.

With this and all the stone chips etc. i'm seriously considering getting the full thing painted haha

Wash it gently with a mitt, IronX, wash, Tardis, Wash, leave the car wet and clay it.

Thanks JD!

Does it matter which way round I apply IronX and Tardis?

After clay can i apply Black Hole, Nattys Blue then AG Extra Gloss Protection?

If the decon and claying dont remove it, the blackhole will go some way to covering / hiding it so topping it with a wax or sealant will help protect all your hard work

I'd wash it gently, decontaminate with Iron X and then use a moderate clay with loads of lube.

Correct as best you can, then follow it up with a filler product (Amigo/Blackhole) with some Z2 over the top.

^ ^ ^ ^ Personally, this...

Would i apply the products i posted above in that order?

They are what i have so i will try with them first, before spending money on more products.

Thanks

Black hole is a great masking/filling product. Use after or instead of a polish.

Nattys blue is a low cost, great results wax. Use after black hole.

egp is an old favourite product. But very out of date and aimed at the mass market. If you want long term protection, use a few layers of that, then Nattys over the top. Egp may mute the flake pop in the paint, however.

Make sure you get some pictures up of the afters!! I want to see how it turns out :)

Well the roof is free from contaminants but still very scratched.

This is how it stands after washing, ironx, ag intensive tar remover, clay, wash, 3 coats of black hole then 2 coats of nattys blue.

All in all it is much better so thanks for the advice :)

It actually looks like it's been badly painted mate. Scratches from the prep stage and etching from the rain or contamination.

It's definitely etching. Probably acid rain on uncured lacquer or weak lacquer. Wet sanding and polishing would help but even then it needs painted or wrapped imo.

If you pop over, I've got some left over paint from the lounge and a brand named fluffy roller. We'll have it done in a jiffy.

It can't look any worse than that..!

Dont know about anyone else but I take it some one owned the car before you?

It looks like the roof has been resprayed at some point, badly prepped work from too harsh sanding like using 800 grit W&D instead of the 3000g that should have been used.

No point in detailing it as with bad prep paint has less stick and it could get alot worse from trying to correct it...

Wrap it for a temp look, save ya pennies up and get it sprayed properly..!!
