Rpm doing 70mph

What revs are people at doing 70 in 5th on the motorway in either a valver or williams?

Im trying to find if ive got a 19 16v gearbox in mine or not. Went in my mates clio the other day, he reckons hes got a 2 litre williams engine and box in it. I dont think he has coz it doesnt pull like it should from low.

Anyhow, he was doing 70, and sitting at about 3200rpm, whereas in my valver, i was doin only 2800rpm at 70.

Anyone?
 


about 3k mate but they will all vary slightly!

If its a willy lump it will say F7P on the engine number plate next to the oil filter iirc!

Also it will be obvious if it is a 2.0ltr from low down the rev range!

If its a willy box and engine it will need to go into 3rd gear to get 60 unless it is chipped!
 


My Valver sits at 2900rpm at 70mph but mine doesnt seem to be normal either cus mine pulls like mads at 3700rpm where as some peeps seem to pull at 4.5. Think its different for each car! When does yours start to pull?

Well, i knackered 1 of the cams on my old engine, so decided to completely re-build the car! Work in progress!

My car pulled steadily but progressively throughout the entire rev range, i swear summut was done to it.

Im just curious really, coz i know when i bought it that itd recently had a recon. gearbox in it. Just wondering whether they couldve slipped a 19 16v box in instead?

My old engine did 99mph on 3rd on the limiter. Had *30 out of it in 4th 1 late night, but backed off coz it was dark & i dont like goin that fast!

Plus i was rolling on 17s.

This sound about right to everyone?

Thats what i was thinking!

The thing is though, im sure the engine was tuned somehow, i had a race with a 2 litre 16v Corsa that was apparently pushing around 170bhp, and kept up once i built up the revs. Its the gearbox thats really confusing me though. As to get to that speed in 4th and still not hit the limiter is very strange. Considering yours only goes to 118ish.

Plus the 17s!

19 16V and Clio 16V boxes are the same, unless youve an early P1 19 16V box, and then its just got a longer 5th gear.
 


Yeah ive got 17s too matey. Seems very strange if it pulls evenly all through the rev range. Maybe you have an 8valve conversion!;) Youll just have to go find a valver round your way and get a race on!

When i get my car done, i probably will!

But the lad with the apparent williams engine says he doesnt race it!

Then whats the point!
 


|Tom_16v - Whats yours had done to it? Mines pretty much standard now (Back to my standard ECU) and 70s at 2900rpm. Whats goin on with mine? Maybe my 17s mess up the reading, pretty sure they dont though...........

My old Metro gti/mpi was at 4500rpm at 70. Did get there in 8.5 seconds though.

My 172 is at 3200 at 70, and my old RT8v was 3500 at 70.

My 900cc polo (first car) never got to 70.
 


I aint got a clue matey! It not like my revs keep going mind in 5th cus itll only do 140 and then doesnt seem to pull anymore! Really very strange! Somethins out somewhere. It may be the 17s or summit?
