RS Monaco Clio surprise (Renault Clio R.S.16)

  Shit little Yaris...
Limited run of 300, I'm guessing it'll be pushing £35k+. If I'd know this was in the pipeline I wouldn't have ordered a Focus RS. I'm not kidding.

[Generic not sure if serious meme]

Get your deposit back, the dealership won't have any problem selling your order.

I don't get it when people say 'it's not worth that' when estimated prices of £35/40k get bounded about.

It's worth whatever people are prepared to pay for it. It's called supply and demand.

Renault know that they will easily sell 300 of these. They would probably easily sell 500 tbh so they price it accordingly to make that dirty word called 'profit'.

I doubt there's any actual profit in Renault selling these at those low numbers.
It's more of an engineering exercise/promotional piece to bring attention to the brand.

No, price is irrelevant. No one buys with cash anyway these days. Which one would you go for, the one that looks like a 1.2 or one with the arches and spoiler not to mention a proper gearbox. Even if they don't bring this out into full production, they will have to change the 'normal one' to the asthetics of this 'new one'. Old one looks like a banana.

I disagree, firstly Renault still haven't announced anything more than a concept car. Also realistically who wants a 5 door car with 2 seats?!? will look pretty special.
If anything RenaultSport should stick the archs on the 200T and job done. Renault surely won't design a manual gearbox for the 200T and some people do prefer a automatic/dsg for the daily due to traffic.

Why would they need to design a gearbox? They surely have one in the "alliance".
We have a gearbox to fit the engine (it is used in the Juke Nismo), but from what I understand it won't fit due to packaging (shape of gearbox tunnel/ mountings/ etc).

I'll have to take your word on that, it does seem strange that they can shoehorn the Megane into a Clio in 5 months and potentially not make any money, yet they can't fit a gearbox that's used on the same engine and same platform in the Juke.

Of course price is relevant otherwise I'd have a brand new focus RS and not a 2 year old clio 200t? The more a car costs the higher the monthly payments which people do care about.

Modifying a handful of cars taken off of a production line versus a mass market change (bear in mind you'd need to change the 'standard' Clio too as they are all based off the same body) that would impact over 100k+ vehicles globally are two completely different prospects.

Not necessarily, as with a PCP, you also have a balloon to consider.
For example, hypothetically speaking, assuming 4.5% interest, £1500 deposit:

Clio 200T - £20k buy price, 50p balloon after 3 years, capital/interest payments based on £19.5k over 3 years, interest only on the £500.
£556 per month. £500 to pay at the end or hand it back.

Clio 200ProperVersion - £30k buy price, £20k balloon after 3 years, capital/interest payments based on £10k over 3 years, interest only on the £20k. £346 per month. £20k to pay at the end or hand it back.

Which one would you buy :tonguewink:
Personally, i think Renault need to consider that whilst the project would be a clear loss leader, they really do need a Halo model again, the latest Clio is a pup, & the Megane (which everyone loves) is no doubt about to be replaced by another pup. Perhaps a 2.0 Turbo isnt required, but a manual box, 250bhp & a diff isnt beyond the realms of possibility imho.

And the balloon is impacted by residual values, which is the major factor when setting monthly PCP payments.

Also having seen the new Mégane RS... It's no pup ;)

What have they gone with? 4wd/2wd? Rear steering? Manual?

Probably a pointless question, I'm sure you can't say.

You'll have to wait and see :D

Umm, didnt you say that about the 200T as well though :kissingheart:
Haha - I genuinely love my 200T as a road car! Pops and bangs on up shifts in sport mode, can put it in automatic when stuck on the M25 in traffic, suspension is compliant on the bumpy country roads but firms up when you want to have a play & the gearbox is fine on track days.
All of that being said, I can also appreciate the other side of the story and see why people have fallen out of love with the new one. Fingers crossed that the changes to the Clio 5 address those concerns.

Do they have a date for a reveal? Has the mk3 been knocked on the head yet?

Ideal scenario would be the Clio 200 being modified with the 'concept' spoiler and arches, and a manual gearbox to go with the 1.6 (out of the Juke). If they do that, Im sure the 200 will be on people's radar again. My point being; who would want to go out with the ugly fat girl, when they have just seen her younger, more attractive sister

Its nothing they didnt do with the Mk2. Fatter arches and spoiler to the normal 1.2 clio.

/\ This totally, just the arches and the spoiler makes such a difference.
The updated box in the 220 Trophy is fine, squeeze a few more BHP out the engine and label the thing up as the Trophy R.

Job jobbed, awesome car is awesome.

Looks (similar) to this, 240-250bhp from the 1.6 and sub £25k, everycunt will want one.
No real need to stick a manual in, maybe offer a trick diff, seats or something as an option.

RUK Update on the Clio RS.16 - 15/06/2016

At present, no decision has yet been made on whether a production car will come of this concept and therefore there is no formal process in which to register a customer’s interest. We expect a decision to be made in the coming months and will provide further details at that time. Should it be built, it will be sold through by dealers in the Renault Sport specialist program.

My local Renault is an are esse specialist.

I Wonder if it's worth pre-registering interest.

I'm sold on the spoiler and arches tbh.

Also, why wasn't blue an option on these? We're/are they saving it for a mad final farewell?

Really love those DRLs, and genuinely- if that was available to purchase (without the silly aero catches or lack of rear seats) it would be very appealing.

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
Yep that too, although at 30k I think it could compete since the Focus RS is 34k now (once you've put the options on it).. That's still tempting too though, infact I have a date with Ford on Saturday afternoon to take one out for a drive!

I think it shows that they peaked a bit early with the Trophy. Perhaps should have stuck the body add-ons from this onto it, made it a bit more extreme looking. The regular 200/220 look cack next to this.
