RS200, 16k on clock, gearbox issues

  Clio RS200 L.Y
I made sure I bought a low miler because I wanted to make sure the mechanics of the car were straight and true. But sadly, two weeks after picking it up from a non-renault garage, I am starting to have issues with the gearbox.

I got in touch with the garage, to explain what has happened. And sadly they can't do anything with it unless it physically can't get into gear. The garage explained in detail why they can't, and suggested a few things I could do to get it sorted. It is better to get told to do one, or get laughed at... so I am thankful that they explained it, so I am not gonna grumble with them.

He has told me that if I get in touch with Renault, explain the problem, they must, or will, honour the problem and sort it, or will drop me 70% discount. Given the year and mileage, he says Renault will have to.

Before I phone them up, is there anything anybody has done with this problem? it's grinding whilst I de-accelerate, not much but you can hear it if your on smooth road with the windows down, and it will crunch gears if you are enthusiastically driving it, obviously now after finding this out, I haven't driven it hard whatsoever. I didn't think the way I drove it would cause an issue like this anyway but sadly it has :(

Any help will be appreciated.

It is a 2010 RS200, as said with 16k on the clock with full specialist/ renault history.

(^^ I haven't posted that up to hint at selling... just incase people think I am trying to break the rules, I've simply put those up to give as much info on the car I can)

Thanks
John.

They all get this problem, very common, Renault are c***s and worn admit there is an issue with the crap gearbox, you should get a goodwill discount, if you do a search you will find lots and lots of information.

Hand the keys to the "dealer" and tell him to fix it or return your money asap. You might want to do some research into what rights you have.

As above! It sounds like the dealership you purchased the car from has totally fobbed you off. What was the reason the garage gave you for them not doing anything??

I think even with a 70% good will gesture you are still looking at £700-£900. If i was you i would drop the car back down to the dealership you got it and ask them to sort it, if they say no! I would ask for my money back. Either way its their problem not yours.

The 'dealer' you bought the car from is laughing at you.

You have owned the car for 2 weeks, it is down to them to sort the problem out, not you.

I suggest you speak to Trading standards to make yourself clear about the rights you have. Then I suggest you ring the dealer back and tell them you will be dropping the car off today for them to sort out at no cost to yourself.

Don't back down or take any more crap.

Although this is another prime example of low mileage meaning absolutely nothing to the condition of a car. I wish people would understand this.

16,000 hard miles can be more damaging than 100k miles at the hands of your favourite granny.

200 boxes are hit and miss when it comes to failing. I had two 200s in the last 5 years covering a total of around 50k and never had a single issue. Others have had failures in the first 5k!

I had this problem exactly on my 59 plate 200. I took it to renault they said a new box was needed. They gave me 75% towards it and I payed the rest. Once I sent renaults invoice to the dealer I bought the car from, they refunded me the money.
