Rubbing after fitting Koni's

Hi there,

Just wacked on a set of Koni adjustables on my 172, front and rear.

My tyres are now rubbing on the guards at the front pretty bad.

Any idea why this would happen? I had a set of Sportline springs before, and they didn't rub. So the springs haven't changed.

I put the camber bolts back in, but couldn't get the camber set. Camber looks ok though.

Any idea?

p.s What the hell are these for?

And do I need to put the dust covers on the front shocks?

I put the rear ones on.

hi fella i would advise putting on your dust covers onthe front as when you come to adjust your settings on the car i.e for track days you will find lots of s**t off the road in the thread of the shock and in time could be a nightmare to adjust.

you must put those washers on your rear shocks.. otherwise the tops of your shocks will be moving a hell of a lot.

That silver grooved washer stops the piston of the shock from entering the cabin on bump.... so in theory the rear shocks are currently not working!

Get it fitted ASAP!

If there anything like my gaz coilovers, the actual coilover is shorter then the OEM strut, hence why your car is lower.

there's your problem then!!! (ET40 and you would've been fine)

get your grinder out (there's a metal flap under the plastic guard where the bumper meets the arch, bend this up on itsef through 180 degrees, then batter it with a hammer, cut away some plastic, job done!)

So it's normal for the car to lower after fitting these things? I had no dramas before...

from what i remember the koni shocks do lower around an extra 5mm from memory

by not fitting the dust covers im assuming the front suspension doesnt have bumpstops on it then? suspension will be bottoming out and fuking your dampers thats why mine fuked up within a month (got them fitted cheaply!) done them myself the 2nd time (£170 later for new front dampers) and fitted the dustcovers/bump stops

yeh they are making a noise, thought that might have been the guards, but it's too loud for that.

Are the bump stops part of the dust covers on the 172?

Fred do you normally fit the dust covers?

they are on the 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 16v cars so i would have thought they wud be on the 2.0 as well but cant confirm that
