running 172 on higher RON fuel?

  Clio T 314hp c43 AMG
Just wondering if anyone uses additive with there fuel? and is there a benefit? i use 99 ron shell v-power would it be a good idea or not to use say NF like used in subaru's/evo's? bumping it up over 100 RON

Thanks
Scott

No advantage at all in a standard NA engine. FI engines are a different matter entirely (especially modified) hence they use additives.

i tried it on my 172 3 or 4 years back , ran optimax and millers octane booster for about 6 tankfulls, did'nt notice a difference tbh

Renault says the 172 was tuned for 95 octane. Higher octane than what the car is tuned for doesn't do anything except cost you more money.

Oddly though the documentation for the 172 Cup says it was tuned for 97 or 98 octane.

What running higher octane would let you do is get the car ECU re-chipped for it, which would give you more power. And it'd still run on lower octane, the ECU'd look after that.

My 172 FF has a 98 RON sticker inside the fuel cap

V Power is supposedly 99 RON

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Ok, I stand corrected! Never read the paperwork, just without going darn sarf to Tesco the only 98RON fuel was the Shell (now evidently 99) so that's what both my cars ran on.

As for additives, mixed up 102RON for my Smart and it didn't make a lot of difference other than making the turbo glow easier.!

Waste of money...Subaru & evos have the turbo and det issues especialy the imports....additive helps prevent meltdown

Just use decent 97 0r 98 fuel

the tesco down my way has 99ron fuel. i just stick that in it. its cheaper than the shell and i just cant see how the shell would be better for the money. i generally get 2 more mpg than regular unleaded

higher ron =higher det resistance= more ignition=more power.... on turbo cars where there are more variables to play with.

We did a test on race fuel which is 102.3oct and it made 3Bhp more on the rollers....Not much for 90£ for 25l! lol
