running low on oil

has anyone had to top their oil up a few times in the first year or so of having a new clio. its only a 1.2 16v and ive done nearly 16k but ive had to put 6 litres of oil in as the oil light comes on every few 3 or 4k its not leaking and its not buring oil. any ideas?

well it must be either using or leaking oil somewhere otherwise it wouldnt be using that much oil. Get it booked in.

anything under 1 litre per about 700 miles is within renault tolerences.oil consumption will decrease as the engine wears in.

Am I right in thinking you shouldnt wait for an oil light to come on in a car, because that means the level is dangerously low and nearing engine blow up time! (If you checked the level on the dipstick once the light comes on I bet the level is off the end of the dipstick). You should check it regularly instead.
