Rusty Calipers

  Audi A5
Clean they up a bit with brake cleaner and a wire brush. Them spray them with high temp spray, job done.

Going to get some Wire brushes (weirdly cant find any in my house at all lol) and buy some caliper spray, anyone got opinions on what Colour Calipers would go well with Monaco, I fancy being different and going to Lime Green :)
Not going to track I think anyway James

I've done two sets with hammerite. Good as you can just wire brush then paint straight on. I did mine black. Just neatened them up
Personally I'd stick to black or silver. They're not really good enough looking brakes to draw attention to with loud colours imo!

When painting would you recommend taking them off or just painting them where they are and just use a small brush ?

I just used a wire brush. Sponge to clean them off with a rag. And painted them with a small brush.

I removed mine and spray painted them as the finish is loads better.
Also you can just mask off the areas that you don't want the paint to go.

If a jobs worth doing then its worth doing right!!

It don't take very long to remove them, clean, mask off the piston and spray paint.

Silver or black for standard brakes imo. Spraying is also the best and easiest way of doing it.

Here is mine ;)

If you are taking the callipers off, think about using a drill & this. Use caution around the rubber gaiters.

Foilatec high temp paint is very good for calipers but you need quite a few good coats for a nice finish.

How easy is it to refurb these calipers? Any certain tools needed?

depends if you do it in place or remove them from the car completely; obviously you will need to bleed the brakes etc if you remove them fully. You really need to use a powered wire brush though else the end up looking like the second set of silver ones on the first page...

Don't think he was thinking of paint. A re ferb means new bits inside.

of course you cannot refurb them on the car.

It's an easy job on the fronts. A little more complex on the rear with the HB mechanism
