screeching noise

i have a mk 2 172 and in the last couple of day when starting first thing in the morning the engine screeches for about 30 secs then its ok and it wont do it again until you start the next morning .its sound like a belt is slipping any ideas.

Yes known guess the tensionerwheel that drives the waterpump. I had it also 30 secs and gone, it will get worse trust me. I got it replaced under warranty. Waterpump, belt and tensioner.

yes thats the one.the cause of the noise is the belt skipping/slipping.you can sometimes see where its jumped across some grooves on the pulleys.the previous post is correct about what would be changed(although it might be the pas pump+pulley that is changed)

as above. but if it isnt then it could be the thrust bearing in the clutch, but i really really doubt that.

noise as totally stopped now had the car stood for 20 hours started it today and it was back to normal no screeching noise ,so it could have been damp on the belts as its been raining hard most of the week.cross fingers its ok.
