Securing the boot after removing the rear seats?

I'm seriously considering loosing the back seats in my 172 which is used almost exclusively on track. The only thing stopping me is keeping the boot secure. The back seats combined with the parcel shelf mean you cannot see whats in my boot, which is handy as I keep a lot of tools and things in there, and when I do track days if I stay over night anywhere there will be my track day items in it. Removing the rear seats means the contents of the boot are visible so the chances of people breaking in to steal stuff increases.

How do people secure their boots without rear seats in? I need to be able to secure some tools and spares and other items.

Maybe next time to visit Harry Potter World you could purchase a Invisibility Cloak. that way you can keep everything hidden under that so no one sees.

The security concern is the only thing holding me back at the moment.

This is how I stop people from seeing in the boot.

I don't have any back seats because of my Alsation,
the waterproof cover is from argos and is purely there to stop everything getting covered in mud,
but from the outside it just looks like a seat cover.

There's no way of securing the boot even with seats,
if someone want into your car they'll just smash the window and fold the seats down to get stuff out the boot.

Yeah I know people will still get in if they want, but its about stopping them wanting too. If someone is out to steal then they will go for the car where they can see a bunch of tools, car parts and a jack in the boot.

How about leaving the parcel shelf and the seat back in, but remove the rear bench. When you get track side just bung the shelf and seat back in a corner somewhere. Thats would i have done in the past. If you dont have a garage for the day your bound to know someone who does.

places like combe for example dont have garages.


TBH all it needs is a piece of cloth dropped vertically down from the parcel shelf, its not difficult, or just lob a sheet over the top of the contents.

Get the rear windows tinted (looks gay) or reshell your running gear into a clio van

build a back board were the seats used to be. would be peice of piss as the brackets used to secure seats could be left in place and used as a bottom fixing point and the top to hold the board in place at the top. best thing is if u do it well u can still fold it down when u do need to put somin larger in the boot

Piece of MDF cut to the shape of the rear, stick a picture of an engine on it, then thieves will think it's a rear engined clio, because they're stooppid and just walk on by

MDF might be a bit too big and heavy, but just something rigid fixed in might work.

Yeah, but having a parcelshelf crafted from dog hair is not ideal for most people
