Security code for my stereo

  Ph2 172
Does anybody know how I can get my hands on the security code for my radio, its the standard one from an 02 plate 172. I've checked and I don't have it with any of my documents. Rang Renault and they wanted £10 for it!

try another dealer. Its on a sticker in the front of your warranty/service manual.

I think I'll give another dealer a try then. My service manual doesn't have that sticker on it, don't know whether it's because mine was originally an import?

The dealer should indeed be able to tell you the code for your stereo. I know I have complained about Wilsons in Epsom, but they not only told me the code for mine, but actually set it all for me, and for FREE!

My car is also an import, which can make it hard for a Renault dealer to trace certain bits. I had all sorts of trouble just getting a gaiter for my gear lever, the chasis number and Reg number together didn't show up on their computers, so they had to take down 'all' the numbers on the sticker inside the drivers door and finally managed to locate my car on Renaults central computer.

I do not see why they want to charge you £10 just to give you the code, it really shouldn't take them that much time if they know what they are doing, but if you really need it, £10 really isn't that much to pay. I'd personally pay the money to get it sorted.

Good luck!

Yeah I know £10 isn't a lot, it's just I've only just bought the car and it's just been in the garage to have some work done, so if I can avoid having to spend cash un-necessarily at the moment I will! lol

I've just tried ringing the garage who first had it and I'm just waiting for them to get back to me, so hopefully they'll have it on their records!

I don't think it's the £10 quid that the problem, it's just the principle! :)

My dad should hopefully do it for you. I'll check the computer later. Remind me with all the details. Cannot promise anything. Not sure if the version i got covers all new cars. Will check tho.

Oh I do understand that completely, and personally think they have a darn cheek for asking for so much for them to just look it and an supply the details. It really will only take them a couple of mins to look it up when given all the required information. It is unfortunate that these days most dealers and garages are not prepared to do you any favours at all! Long gone are the times when garages actually helped you out, and that's pretty sad, but lets face it, it's not about helping you these days, it's all about making money.

lol! yeah, never trust a main dealer. I took my car there for an inspection, turns out that I needed over £400 worth of work doing to my car so I took it to my local garage for a second opinion, imagine my surprise when it didn't even cost half that!

Main dealers are rip off merchants. Nothing ever costs as much as they say it does. My local garage not only take great pride in what they do, but they look afater you car with great care and charge you the least they can, garages like that are very rare and worth their weight in gold!
