Seeing 1990's cars on the roads nowadays....

  Evo 5 RS
I don’t impede on anyone in the Evo, in fact I’ve never had a car that more people pull in for. Sometimes even on B roads lol

  Land Rover
I had some utter bellend speed up on me while I was trying to overtake the other day - he looked very smug surging away on his wall of torque in his tdi 18-plate black Merc, and seemingly had no appreciation or even care that his actions would kill me in my non-ABS, non-Airbags, non-PAS, non-ESP, non-anything old car if something came the other way and he didn't let me back in because 'funny' / 'winning'.

These are the people who don't deserve to own the sort of thing they can finance.

I had the same happen to me while driving my friends VX220.
I pulled out to overtake a dawdling 14 plate (new at the time) Mercedes and he floored it.
Sadly for the Merc driver, the VX220 was the turbo version and had been chipped, so l absolutely wiped the floor with him. It was viciously fast with 270bhp and weighed about as much as a packet of crisps.
My friend’s young daughter went in it and dubbed it the “Scaremaster”
The Mercedes literally rocked in the slipstream of the VX. I still smile now when l think of it.

I have a few 90’s cars and all of them strike a conversation when I’m out and about in them;

Pug 306
Escort RS Turbo
Volvo 850R
Fiat Coupe 20vT

And I’ve just bought a 328i but it’s dog rough so nobody cares about that.

Thought you were in possession of an Orion too?

I nearly bought a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo last month but was scared off by the work needed even though it looked mint.
I think they are fabulous, a budget Ferrari in my opinion.

Being able to get past morons by applying more right foot is a good thing, for sure - but my beef is that one shouldn't need to have stupid power 'just in case' - one should be able to overtake someone dawdling along while driving, in theory, even just a 27bhp Fiat 127, for example. The person being overtaken shouldn't be such a f**king child, and risk the lives of someone else because they somehow feel inferior at being overtaken, that they delibrately speed up and increase the Time Exposed to Danger for the person doing the overtaking.

Why not just carry on at the speed they were doing? Why speed up? Is their ego so tissue-paper-fragile that they can't possibly cope with going slower than someone else??

People really don't think past the end of their bonnet / the next few seconds / their current knee-jerk emotional state.

On a related note, this is worth a read:

I went out in a 'stage 4' VX220 Turbo once, it was like going to Alton Towers! I honestly thought my forehead was going to split open! It was too bloody fast!

They're a f**king RIOT. An ex-colleague has a VXT with many mods and about 340BHP. One of the most entertaining things I've ever driven, right up there in top 3.

Don't see many of these on the road now. Obviously nowhere near as epic as some of the things in here but they certainly have the go kart lightweight feel.

Nothing more annoying than your suspension fluid pissing out though. Got beached on my parents drive far too many times.

saw another Calibra this morning dragging it's exhaust along the road making a right old noise. Looked a bit of a shed with a carbon effect bonnet with bonnet vents.

Ive got two 90's cars. A MK4 Toyota Supra Aerotop twin turbo and a Audi B5 S4
.

I have yet to see another Supra on the road. They really are fantastic

Sigh.

The problem with being a car in the 90's, is that your owner might read Max Power / Fast Car etc.

Coolio, is it standard ? (mind you, no one ever had a standard one)
It wasn't when I bought it but it is now.

Just waiting on the £560 (!!!) custome built stainless OE replica exhaust to arrive then it's totally standard. :)

@Daniel if you ever want to sell the 850R, do let me know.

I had a black T-5 CD that had all the R bits on it. One of my favourites, always regret selling it.

Up until a few months ago my brother had three manual T5 R's (a ropey black one, a green one and a Gul) and a normal T5 (almost exactly the same as mine). All have gone now except the Gul though! It's completely stock and very tidy!

Mine's an 850R. Which from a technical and physical point of view is the better car, but the T5-R is the one the Volvo fan boys want.

Yeah 850R manual is the one I would go for. Bigger turbo and diff make it the winner for me. The interior is nicer too I think. The leather/suede combo is the wrong way round in a T-5R.

@Daniel Pretty sure I have some ERST bits knocking about in the shed from when I bought that grey nail. Want me to have a look later?

I'm led to believe that if (When?) the diff blows up, you can't get a replacement. From anywhere...?

I'd love a proper T-5R/850R but they command a premium and mine was such a bargain it was rude not to. It's a normal T5 but with all the T-5R parts (interior/titans/bumpers etc), KW V2's and a map to c.250. It also has the wooden steering wheel which is a bit awesome, ... Shame the T-5R gearknobs go for silly money!!

Also know of an 850R on under 5000 miles that hasn't moved in a long time!

Also this is quite an interesting read:
