Seized Coilovers

OK, one of my adjuster rings is seized to the strut. Ive tried everything except fire.

Big f**k off metal bar to get more torque on it, ive bent the C spanners as theyre too weak. I managed to get the ring to move about a CM.
Penetrating oil.
Hammer and Chisel.

My threads are okay (I think) but now my ring is pretty paggered and I dont think itll be much use even with a C spanner now.

Can I get replacement Rings and saw it off?

Both H&R and FK were shocking for this! Unless you oiled them regually they seized!

Thought you were into your detailing mate!!! Should be oiling them regually! Amateur!

I think im going to need to make a habbit of doing this! Take my wheels of and detail those while IM at it.

I never sprayed them down with waxoyl or copper grease unfortunately and a year later when I first adjusted them they were a pig to do.

Managed to get them all the way down and then when it came to fitting a new gearbox. Took me the best part of 6 hours to adjust them. And now one of them is well and truly stuck.

Im worried about cutting them off though surely itll be nigh on impossible to do this without f**king the thread??

There is some awesome pentrating spray my mate used on my old shocks when we were taking them off. I'll ask him what it was and get back to you. It really was awesome stuff left for a few hours.

Edit: Plus Gas =]

Or freezing spray and snap it off :p

They were put on in Jan 2010

Ive not maintained them so its my own fault, but Id rarther not have to pay for the strut to be removed, and have the adjuster ring sawn off, and then have the geometry set up.

Like I said, only thing ive not tried is freezing and burning but I cant see how anything would penetrate deep enough to get behind the adjuster. Tehn its got the weight of the car to fight against and the shitty threads.

i'd have advised against heat as it would have heated up the oils inside ;)

Put some i bought in a vice and used a f**k off (and i mean nearly 2m bar lol) Soon shifted

Bloody hell!

I was under my car for a few hours today trying to unlock my rear adjusters only to give up fighting with the grub-screws - seized up! :(

Esh. I was gunna raise mine up at the weekend. Hope they aint seized up to!

Is it just grit and dust that gets in the thread that causes it to seize?

Penetrating fluid should do it .. next time anyway. Can even leave it overnight to work in.

I did. Believbe me it didnt work. Only once we got the big f**k off stilton on it did it start to move. Became easy once we got halfway down the coils.

Now to get my car set up again, pulls to the left, and the steering wheel is off to the right.

I thought if the spring was out of the way they just lifted out when you undone the bottom bolt/washer? Or is that wishful thinking? lol
