Seriously need help with a clio 182. Please help!!

  182
Hi
Iv been saving up now since about december for a clio 182/182 cup and have my heart set on a artic blue or racing blue one. atm my current budget is £3.8k but growing each week i look for one, Iv only seen about 2 really good buys over the last 5-6 months but i have seen people on CS commenting on how they have a 182 with good milage and FSH with belts done for £3.5-£4k. I dont want one from a garage that are going to stick an extra £1k on the top of the price either. Iv been looking on pistonheads and ebay for the last few months but cant seem to get anywhere.

The other issue is my insurance, Im 23 with 1 years no claims and no claims or convictions in the last 5 years. Brentacre and greenlight both come in at about £1.6k, Any other good companies or any ideas how to bring it down at all?

My plan is to get a £2k-£2.5k loan on top of my money so i have a budget of £4.5k-£5k and the rest for my insurance but i just dont like the feeling of still getting a loan after saving for so long :(.

Any suggestions please? No silly comments please i really am struggling :(

Thanks for reading and i would highly appreciate your comments.

Don't get one.

They are great cars but are not worth messing yourself up financially (which it sounds like you will be doing?).

Plenty of other cracking cars that you can get that won't rape you. Take a look at the fiesta zetec s or saxo vts as a stop gap.

Do plenty of research before you get one, understand the maintenance schedules involved and possible problems you may have. Also factor in a cambelt change at some point.

Try admiral, they've been top on quotes for me for this year, totally beating brentacre, adrian flux etc. A lot of people have had great quotes from them this year.

I would definitely get one, you're 23 now, so I dont think getting a Fiesta or saxo is something you really want to look for, go for what you've aimed for all of this time, just dont scrape the barrell to buy the car, make sure theres enough in there to fall back on for repairs.

I wouldn't look to getting a personal loan either, just wait until you have the funds to pay for it all instead of stretching yourself financially then ending up hating the car for draining your pocket each month for being impatient.

Hope that helps

I can afford one, My loan will only be for 1 year so at the worst i might be able to feel it for 1 year but after that i would be sorted. Just need abit of help where to look and any other insurance compaines if possible.

why not get a 172?
I personally would never get a loan to buy a car, but then i'm cheap.
I'd get a 172 for the money I have saved, and hopefully leave a bit to get it in good nick (cambelts etc)

Save more or spend less if you don't want a loan.

There are loads of insurance companies out there, try them all. It's worth spending some time on. Specialists like Brentacre and others are more useful if you have mods. If you want to keep it standard, just go with an everyday company. But if you change your mind and want to mod it, they'll cost more than specialists.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Buy a monaco Blue 172 Minter for around 2800-3k

Spend a bit of money of some nice mods- will look better than most 182's-

Same car for all intense purposes...

Thanks for all the comments, I really am set on a 182 though, the silver and blacks ones seem alot cheaper and there are more to choose from than the odd good blues ones Iv seen. Do the blue ones tend to be that much more expensive? Thanks again

Dont think for one moment that you'll just "buy a 1X2" and that'll be the end of it.
You can bet large sums that you'll soon be into the garage for some remedial work on something. THIS is why getting a loan for it may not be the best bet.
You've waited this long, just give it a few more months of motoring in the 1.2, saving on fuel and insurance costs.

I'd suggest you do use a garage if you can find one for good money though, warranties are a very useful thing to have.
