Service types and what's done on each one?

  Audi A3
Recently went to book my car in for a service and they guy asked me milage etc and said he'd do a 12k service on it?

Question is what does that and the other services include or not include?

172 non cup on 55k (2003) it's going in for aux belt, cambelt and 12k service, previous owner did it all himself apparently so not stamped, so no idea what has hasn't been done in all honesty.

was about to ask this myself really, sorry for the thread steal.

my cars done 135K, when i bought it a year ago the garage did a basic service on it. when should i be looking at changing filters etc ? and is there anyway of telling when the belts where changed last ? i have minimal service history even though it had one owner

as above really mate, would be a 60k service which im sure is the same as a 12k 24k service make sure proper renault tools are used on cambelt

dr rollo yeah thats close to me. but christ thats more than i was expecting, i could buy a new engine and have it fitted for close to that

im selling the car in about a year, would the belts hold out till then ? ill have to check what paperwork i have but im fairly sure i dont know when they were last done :/

mines not even a sport so if it comes to it an engine swap may be cheaper for me. car only has to last another year or so so ill get my mechanic friend to have a look and see what life he thinks everything has left in it. ill try and avoid changing the belts if possible

i dont cover a very large amount of miles on it as i have a bike aswell and use that alot so hopefully it will be ok. seen as how the cars done 135K the belts must of been changed, another 4K or so in the next year should be alright shouldnt it ?

If yours is a non sport then the the cost of a cambelt change will be a hell of alot cheaper than if it was a sport, for peace of mind get it done

I think you'll find that those prices are for Renaultsport cars mate! Give them a call... I had my belts changed their last year, they're top blokes.

its only bout 250 -300 for a non sport but risk it at your own peril its done 135k is a non sport so i'd prob just run it till it goes bang then scrap it

Agreed.... It's probably not worth much more money than it would cost you to service it and get the belts done, so I'd just stick some el-cheapo oil in it and run it til it dies personally.

apart from having them done at the correct mileage, is there anyway of telling when they need to be done ? or should i just look at having it done. pain in the ass, dont want to spend to much on it as i know im going to be selling it soon

this was my kind of idea. if all thats going to happen is the engine will be screwed then i would just run it till it dies then replace the engine seen as how there so cheap.
with a bit of luck it will last a year and then its not my problem

mate just run it till it goes, it's done alot of miles you could replace the engine when it goes but your better off saving uop some cash and getting a sport model with all belts already done

im buying a sport in just under a year which is when i can afford the insurance, so its literally gonna last till then. if it does die but last long enough ill just make do without a car for a bit, or maybe fix it so i have something to part ex

  172 cup
sounds like a plan m8 if it does go bang and ya cant sell it break it for parts, you wont get as much for breaking a sport but all the cash from your old car can go to the new one :D

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
with a bit of luck it will hold out long enough for me to get something on a part exchange from it, the cars in surprisingly good nick considering the miles
