I've had apex on 172 for just over a year now. I think they look fantastic and I genuinely think the handling is much improved. But the ride is starting to get to me and can cause a few issues on bumpy roads.

She currently looks like this (almost perfect stance IMO, just a little high at the back):

Sportlines:

I've found Sportlines @ Venom motorsport for £134 delivered.

Do they stay or do they go?

Stock Cup set up is very good. I'm currently driving round in a stock 182 cup packed, an its very good imo

Return to stock isn't an option on a FF IMO. My Apex'd beast has dealt with an un-cupped 182 and a FF 172. They may ride badly but they do improve the handling.

IMO from what ive heard len once youve had eibachs you'll never go back.

stance wise apex, handling and quality, vote has gone to eibach

Doesn't mean anyhting IMO that. I've dealt with a coilover 172/182's stock with more weight in my car.

it def dosn't mean anything as i've dealt with my mates series 1 rs turbo round corners many times in my stock 1.2

just the straight lines that get me

We're at 50/50.

I don't think the standard setup was all that to be honest. It was better than any of previous cars but the back end was so light and unpredicatable.

As said, suspension is all about personal preference and I just didn't get on with the standard kit. The Apex has proved to suit my driving style quite well even when I've driven a standard car back to back.

Still not quite sure why it doesn't prove anything. I can understand why it doesn't prove everything as you have to throw drivers, tyres etc into the mix. But when two cars that should both go round a corner at similar speeds when standard are back to back and the lowered car exits much quicker and a good distance ahead, it certainly looks to me like the lowered car has the edge.

Cup set up is not the same as a standard 172 set up. They have a stiffer rates. Sportlines you will love mind. I had pro lines on my cup before the H&R'sand loved them. Just didnt do it height wise for me :(

Have any of the people that have voted owned both?

I like hard cars, but took my apex off after a month. The handling was nice, but on a bumpy road they were just too crashy, and steering feel felt off. Sportlines are a big improvement over the apex, have some fitted at the moment. I think bubbles has also done the same swap, worth pming her a link to this mate.

Exactly what i'm after mate, first hand experience of both.

I'll PM Bubbles now.

I find after coming from apex, the ride on sportlines is similar to that of standard. Much more comfortable.

Handling is like standard, but a bit more planted. I find the standard set up can be a bit floaty and twitchy.

You can turn in much harder, and you can feel the car digging in around corners, but i guess you're used to this with apex.

It's been that long since I've driven a standard car for any period of time, I can't remember what it was like.

If find that if I am a passenger in another car, I actually wince and clench my teeth as they approach speed bumps etc. thinking they will practically write the car off as they would with mine. Definately time to change me thinks.

So would you say that there is no trade off in handling and turn in in comparison to the Apex but they ride much more compliantly? That extra compliance in the suspension can only aid things on our crappy B roads.

Dan i voted have driven cars with apex springs on and i was not impressed TBH, the hard is hard and uncomfortable, looks wise fantastic, but sportlines are best for drivers cars, handlind and ride are excellant.

Having had both on the car... my opinion is as follows:

To begin with the Apex were fantastic.... i had them on for a little over a year and the looks were fantastic!

However... it was a harsh bumpy ride, and a few months ago i took them off to find they had sagged.. so badly that the car was srubbing and it was not a comfy ride (car was at a 55mm+ drop)

Sportlines went on and its fantastic... no, it doesnt look as sexy, but now theyve settle its a great compromise. The ride is comfy and it handles just as well as the Apex did

I have just recenty put sportlines on my 172cup and i find the ride really good, throw it into a corner and there's hardly any body roll. It did drop the car abit but no one really noticed it lol I forgot to take a before and after :(

Do people generally run Sportline's on the standard shocks? I'm looking at some at the moment. Any guesses as to what they'd lower my mk2ph1 1.4 by?

i had apex on my 1.2 (springs and dampers) and they were awesome, nearly as good as my FK Silverline X Coilovers with adjustable konis!

my standard 172 is all over the place compaired to my 1.2 dropped 80mm on FK's the back end is so unpredictable, i feel i cant lift off coming upto roundabouts if its a slight turn in the road! where i used to be able to brake hard in the 1.2!

think ill get a set of sportlines for it.

Are sportlines made to be used with standard shocks? or do people run an aftermarket damper with them too?
