hmm

how fast were you going?

most likely will be bad, but seens as the engine is low millage id get it checked out as, i might be worth fixing

it would be a diff story on a car with 120k on the clock might as well get a new lump

if u do get another engine why not holde out for a willimas one

hillpower fitted one to rockports car and supplied it for around 1300 ish i think and its alot faster

if it was revving high at the time your stuffed. its going to of bent a few things whatevers happened.... get it checked nothing to lose by taking the head off, etc.

i quite like the idea of the GTT lump but id consider it a step back... its always going to be a old engine at the end of the day, although i quite like the pushrod engines nothing against that. williams engine if you want to go ploughing all day....

best wait for Ben R to answer or ring somewehere like infinicar and see what hes got lying around

i was only doing bout 40mph in 4th at the time, and it just died, pulled straight over and (stupidly) tried to start it twice as i didnt know what the problem was, AA dudes came out and said was the cambelt and i cried

would love a williams engine but they are rare, also i need a car for getting to work so longer im without it more it is a hassle.

will ask my uncle to look but thatll take forever!

cheers for your info

prob the age of the belt why it broke. im sure there rated for so many miles or years. whichever comes first.

at 40mph it may not be too bad. youd be low revs so less chance of damage. hope its not too bad.

personally i dont go much on the williams engine, but thats my choice, and in fairness ive never really had much to do with one ( loads on here have...)

cant hurt you to take the head off and have a look at the damage - it isnt going anywhere as is, and you wont need to worry about dicking up the timing or anything as you aint got none now! least you will be able to assess the damage and then work out what you may need to rebuild ( then it could get to a write off the engine point or a rebuild)

Dont worry to much, it will only have bent valves, take the head off fit some new ones refit it and put a new cambelt on.

Make itt sound easy dont I......

Its not a hard job to do, just takes time.

PM me for any info you need, like settings, torque etc.

9 times out of 10 they will bend valves.fit a cambelt kit and not just a belt when rebuilding.headgasket set and cambelt kit are fairly exspensive,Valves arent to bad.i would personally change the headbolts as well.

Same thing happened to my Metro Gti 16v a couple of years ago.

But take it to a garage and get them to look at the extent of the damage!

going to be pretty expensive though

Think bolts are generally considered scrap after there out, one of those things you will kick yourself for if you dont do it and it goes wrong... 40quid a set i think( but you dont plan on doing it to often do you!)

you can actually meassure the bolt length and if its under a certain length(hasnt stretched)you can reuse them(there not stretch bolts) but i think its good practice to change them anyway.

doesnt matter speed. i was doing 10mph in 2nd and it snapped and bent 15 valves!

if u can get a willy lump go for it, but i ended up having mine rebuilt, balanced, cams, headwork etc...!

im pretty sure mailto:paul@infinicar.com">paul@infinicar.com has a willy lump atm, drop him a note or check on the site, good luck...
