Shift light RPM on 172 cup

Just wondering at what RPM other peoples shift light comes on. Since I got my cup at about a year old with 15k on it has always come in at about 6750RPM, but the last few weeks (now 3yrs old 45k) it sometimes comes in at 6250 and sometimes not until 7000.

Anyone else had this?

It should come on at about 6750ish like you said. If the engine is still cold, the light comes on earlier, at about 6250 - because the rev limiter itself is lower if the engine isn't warm enough.

shouldnt be reaching thje shift light when its cold, but yes, its because the limiter is lower

I have never taken it above 3000RPM until it is up to temperature, I'd been driving for about 20mins when I noticed it.

1 week out of warranty!!

i did not know the 172 had this till i came on here. I had the light going today it was around 7k

it's a pain in the tits, even when the car is at 1/2 temp...It won't let you rev to 7.2k, theres no way to know when it's fully up to temp. After a while it will, but its a pain.

I normally change before the shidt light tbh..... Is it worth going through those extra couple of revs? Mine seems to have run out of gas before 7000, so i grab another gear.....

I find its best to change up at about 6750, will drop to about 5000RPM in next gear, just where engine starts to pull.

I Dont really use the shift light, just annoying me that its coming on at random rpm.
