Should i buy a 197 cup or full version ?

Hi Guys and gals

Recently joined the forum as im going to be buying a 197 shortly . I test drove a full version this weekend and liked it . But my thoughts are should i buy the cup version which is around £1500 cheaper or the full version

I was not able to sit in or drive a cup so i havent been able to experience the cup interior , how basic is it ?

My current car is an Astra CDTi 150 which is quick for a diesel and before that i had a totally unreliable corsa vxr for almost 2 years

Are there any reliability issues with the 197 ?

Cheers for the help

Are you a track day nutter? If no, then I would go for the full version. You won't be able to exploit the difference on the road and you will appreciate the extra toys.

That's what I did

No real issues. Most 'kangaroo' when cold, but that clears after a few mins of driving. Check for crunching above 5k especailly in 3rd. Dash aint that basic, AC is an option on a Cup, so might not have that, other than that it just has a more basic radio, and the dash top is hard touch plastic, not soft. Also you dont get the RS steering wheel with red centre bad, or metal pedals in the cup version. Get a 'cupped' 197. Get he chassis of the cup (red brembos, anthricite alloys, 7mm lower stiffer ride) but with all the usual 197 refinements?

the difference is so nominal it makes little difference in the overall driving experience.

I think the normal 197 will always be easier to sell over a cup as proven by the 182/182 cup second hand market. The majority don't want a cup in the second hand market.

But overall, it makes little difference.

Thanks for the replies

Are there any issues with the recaro seat upgrades ? I know with the ours and many of the other corsa vxr's the seats were troublesome . The trim kept splitting and coming away on the corsa

The recaros wear very badly. Should be able to get this fixed under warranty but you may have a fight on your hands. The standard seats are very comfortable.

I asked the sales guy about the seats and he assured me there was never any problem with me . But they are exactly the same unit as the corsa vxr and i know there is alot of trouble with them .

Thanks guys .

I may be going to see a cup later this week , this has a yozzasport exhaust fitted , whats the thoughts on this system . My old vxr had a remus on it and the pop and bang from that made it so much fun

Popped in today to sit in and view a cup model . Think im going to stick with the full version

Now to find one , if anyone knows of a white 197 with black wheels , rear cup spoiler for around £12,000 could you please give me a shout . Not to worried on the recaro's as the standard seats are nice , folding mirrors would be a bonus

Thanks

The non-Recaro seats are pretty good and don't have wearing issues, get one with the Cup pack if you can... Do you have any intentions of future mods?

I will get a performance exhaust such as milltek . Other than that i will keep it standard . Im aware through searching that changing the exhaust will cause a flat spot . Definately will keep the original cat

Had my vxr remapped and not really interested in going down that route again

House prices probably (famous last words) won't change for a year or 2 so GO FOR IT :approve:

Depends if you are going R27 or not. You have 6k add half again and you will get another 197. I bought mine last year for a little over 8k. Some would say poverty spec but I don't give a fcuk. Less things to go wrong IMO. The main thing for me was the colour (nimbus) and the 1 careful (;)) owner.
