Should I change my tyres

  Titanium Clio 182
The tread is still pretty deep. They have done 60,000 miles (80% motorway). You can see on the photos attached, that little cracks are appearing on the rim of the wheels as the tyres keep going down, I have to pump them up once a week, sometimes twice.

I've found that I need to change the fronts when they get down to about 2mm above the wear indicators as the performance turns to sh**e. How much tread until you reach the wear indicators? I'm on Michelin PE2s.

No i've just left them on the rear ever since I had them, I really should change them to the front when I get new ones. I don't know what the tread is but they have plenty left.

Over time the tyres go hard and crack, to be honest i would just bin them. Dont you find the back end goes light alot with these tyres on rear and having new tyres on front all the time?

from my experience:

contisport contact - same in wet and dry, but understeer alot.

pe2s - very good in dry, not too bad in wet, probably on par with ^^^

yokohama A539 (i think that's what they are called) - s**t.

next to try are the toyo t1r , can be had for around 50 quid a corner for 215/40/16

www.tyretest.com rates the toyos quite highly.

what is the dark line along the side of the tyres?

have you been driving on them whilst they wer under the correct pressure?

  Titanium Clio 182
Yes, they both have slow punctures. I'm going to have to invest in a new set I think. The front tyres are new they are fine.

bet you the punctures will be repaired and sold on as part worn...

youve prob got a nail in them somewhere, i'd try and keep them as spares personally..emergency ones

Thanks for the advice, I really should keep a better eye on the tyres, Im in the Navy so I travel from Portsmouth to Middlesbrough every weekend that I can afford to go home. So this is really a priority.

the rubber will go hard over time, so they will become brittle and crack and one day go pop while you are driving.....

Best is to rotate rear to front as then the tyres wont be on long enough for this to happen. Rarely get more than 6000 out my front tyres.

I get about 20,000 from my front tyres, but its mostly motorway driving. So its not as aggressive on the tyres.

al

  ST on the way...
Looking at the scrub on the outside of the tyre the inside may well be in a similar condition.
