should I change the engine oil?

  Renaultsport Clio 197
just done about 2k miles in my car (didn't bother running it in, just didn't trash it first 400ish miles)
And I was thinking about changing from the factory ELF to some full-synth high-performance oil, maybe Silkolene or Motul !? or something else?

all thoughts/advices are welcome

I waited until 5k to change my oil, my brother did his at about 3.5k, others on here changed it straight away, do a search for a post by oilman to see what oil to use.

Change it now ASAP.

Factory oils not good most of the stuff from the bult comes out innthe first few miles of running.

Running is should be done hard anyway.

I done mine first at 6K, rang Reno & they told me not to bother until 12k unless i drove it hard !!! WTF ?

Ran it in for first 600 miles not going over 5k rpm too much, have changed oil every 6K since runs sweet as, all good so far.

Got my 24K service booked in couple of weeks.

I don't think so otherwise it wouldn't be called running it in and it wouldn't say in the manual to keep under 3 1/2 for 625 miles. If you want to ask Renault to see whether they'll change their running in term to thraping it in go ahead lol

After you've ran it in and gradualy built the revs up it's best to keep driving it at the top of the rev counter for a bit to loosen it up (when it's not cold). If you don't drive it hard after you've fully ran it in it can be just as bad as not running it in properly, agreed, because the engine needs to loosen up (especialy sport engines becuase their designed for going fast so if you don't loosen it up after you've ran it in it will never be as quick as it should be) but you need to run it in properly first.

Renaultsport engines are partly run in before they go into the cars so you shouldn't get as much sh*t in the oil as some cars.

I've not changed my oil becuause if there is a problem because I've not changed my oil Renault should fix it under warrenty as there the ones that have told me and stated it in the handbook not to bother until the 12000 mile service. I've not heard of anyone having a problem because they've not changed the oil in a Renaultsport car (correct me if I'm wrong though).

If you really do want to change the oil I'd ask Renault first though because there very funny about people doing things to cars under warrenty (I know it sounds silly as it's only changing the oil but it's worth a phone call I'd say).

Do you think Renault care about making your car quick? or the most powerful or efficent or are they just do you think as they are portecting there own behinds?

If and engine going to fail it will do in the fist few miles so hence asking you to keep rpm down means if it does go then the bill for them will be less. Plus tell people to drive it hard and they'll go crash if its there first quick car and then Renault are to blame so why bother.

The sport engines as you call them are stock F4R realy as used in the Laguns and Megans etc there not exactly a sport engine though. There not desinged to do fast or slow they are desinged as engines that all.

Engines arn't run in bar the 1/4 mile dash they take to get on the boats and ferrys to the UK.

Jsut because you havn't chnaged the oil and cars arn't a problem doesn't mean anyhting I know a few cars on original oil at 50k+ does that mean you shoulnd't chnage oil nope oils what your engine needs to run if its dirty change it the 12k service rules are only for the Uk the same cars in other countires are ever 5k exactly the same cars its just what the warently department/renault can accept. Engine won't fail with no servicing realy unless its extrem its just good practice for a good engine.
