Ive been on the hunt for a 172 or a 182 for the past few weeks but nothing has really stood out for me.

But ... I've seen a 172 thats caught my eye. Its been in the same family for 5 years. From what i can tell its not been owned by a big car enthusiast, but looked after all the same. 58k on the clock, clean and tidy in the pics, totally standard. Here is my problem the belts have been done and stamped but not by renault/specialist. The car is up at 2600. Do i chance it and the worst case scenario i need to have the timing looked at? or do i avoid?

I say go for it. My belts were done by a non Renault specialist, but I know the mechanic well and trust him 100%. If I come to sell I would be pissed if someone tried to rape my price for not getting charged through the ass for having my belts done. :) minor rant over!

The way i see it is, as long as there are new belts fitted they're not going to fail albeit maybe not been done correctly. I've made a cheeky offer that would allow for the belts to be done again. Watch this space...

dannyh172 - totally valid point. Ive never seen so much stigma surrounding belts on a car!

Oh and the belts were done with genuine parts if that makes much diff.

Its honestly the other way about, havent seen a thing north of the border that takes my fancy! Although im working in in norfolk from the 25-29 april, if im still car-less i may be in touch!
