Ive just been out driving around for an hour or so just for the hell of it. After all its not my fuel being used! They gave me a full tank and its only gone down one bar so far. The car is on 61mpg and I cant believe how quick and responsive it is. Id forgotten how much fun Clios were to drive although the last one I drove was a 1.2 16v and that was no where near as good as this diesel.

When I grow out of cars like the 182 I would seriously consider investing in something like this. Not sure I could justify the cost of adding climate control to such a cheap car though.

Am loving the digital climate control. I run it in automode most of the time although I can see it being a pain in the winter as I will have to switch to manual for demisting.

Anyway two days ago I was a diesel hater and now I am a full on convert!

i have given the dci a pasting in comparison to a 182 but for what it is its pretty good. i was impressed with mpg even when caning my loaner car too. toypop i can tell from your posts your going to LOVE your 182!!!!!

No need to switch it to manual, just hit the demist button and leave it a minute, then hit the demist again to return to auto.

Go on buy it you know you want to dont let these petrol heads get the wicked ways on you become a diesel head (we are a bit of a rarity on the forum).

Wait till you get some more miles on it as well it gets better.

For people who doent think a dci could be as quick as a 182 round a track dontforget Fred has a 1.2 and kept with Yozzas Cup round the track. Allright it depends on the track but a dci would cost a fair bit less driving round insurance etc.

Cant buy the diesel, have already signed the paper work for the 182 so unless something is wrong enough for me to reject it when it turns up within the next few days I am stuck with it! Being stuck with a 182 is nothing to grumble about I suppose!

A little worrying though is that it broke first thing Thursday morning. If they had fixed it on Thursday or by Friday lunchtime the broker would have rung me to arrange delivery. Wonder what is taking them so long just to sort out an engine management light. Get the feeling that this is another one of those cases where they dont know what is wrong with it. Suspect they will reset it and give me the car only for it to fail again a week later.

Just to say, my sister has a Civic Type R, and yes its Japanese and should be reliable; but it pissed coolant all over the motorway and suffered a cracked cylinder head. It needed an engine rebuild (5 weeks of work and a few grand later - covered by the insurance).

Just to top it all off, when she got the car back the airbox wasnt connected to the pipe properly.

Bad reliability and sh*t dealers occur with these Jap cars too you know ;).

ultimatley jap cars used to be built awesome and to a degree they still are .... so did mercedes but to a degree there not. but now everyone has to compete so much harder and produce more cars so there are now no limits when it comes to unrealiablity with any model IMO.

my dads merc (company car) is a full spec 2.7 diesel C-class avangarde se. the ammount of problems its had are astonoshing and its not even a good car. The press said it handles brilliantly... err bolocks ! its a faulty brick on wheels.

my 172 (which i too am selling shortly) has 20k on the clock is 1year old and hasnt had any. and i absolutley punish it sometimes.. for hours. it just have to get new tyres and oil all the time. i paid 12k much less than the merc and that doesnt even has a 6cd changer like mine and also only does 40mpg !!! same as the 172 can.

ohh and no a DCI wont keep pace with a 182. sorry but by the time youve modded it to the max it could take i.e a DCI 100 to 125-135 (still fekin fast for a small car) + handling (1k to sort that) oh and the brakes.. etc..you could have bought something else. part of 172/182 ownership is an unasumming everyday car like the DCI, still good economy and not pay the earth for something that is minutley better and probably wont put a smile on yer face.

oh and amazingly people wont laugh you off the track. faults are annoying but for most people there are just niggles in an other wise bargin of a car.

that is really all there is to say on the matter of 172/182 value/reliability. you look at highly tuned sports cars they feck up all the time and cost a bomb but people drive them because there unique and enthusiasts.

we just cant afford the high repair bills so choose a cheaper enthusiasts car.

Glad i made the right choice :)

My 52 plate CTR has been faultless and when i picked it up it was like new.

Honda are superb in the customer relations and care department.

Every car? Well going on the cars some of my family members have had (not exactly choice motors I admit) the following never broke down, they definitely never broke down prior to delivery:

Austin Montego, Austin Maestro, Austin Mini, Daewoo Matiz, Vauxhall Vectra, Vauxhall Astra, Toyota Yaris and a Mk3 Escort.

Now how can the 182 be the embarrassment amongst that lot!!!!!!

By the way, the dci is doing 80mpg after I went out crusin last night!

  Yaris Hybrid

Driving the dci last night made me think that anyone who buys one of those hybrids has to be the biggest mug going!

The dci is half the price, has more power and does more miles per gallon!

You would think that shutting down the factory for a month would give them time to sort out all the production problems. Yet they start back to work in September and turn out even bigger crap than they were producing in July!!!

  Spec C 12.5@110 (345/355)

Just look at the problems section over at the CTR forum, every car has it annoying niggles. I must say the Honda garage I bought the car from is by far the best Ive experienced, much better than Renault and the so far appalling Subaru dealerships ive been to!

Shouldve got a dci, LMAO I was about to post and ask if one of the moderators could do that for me!

You beat me to it.

The CTR is third on my list now behind the 182 and dci. I took my mate out in it last night, he has a BMW 323 and the first thing he said when we pulled out onto the main road was that it was damn nippy.

Its a strange engine, in urban areas when accelerating out of junctions etc it feels like it has at least 150bhp. Or rather in those situations it feels as quick as 150bhp cars I have driven in the past. However if you take it out on a dual carriageway and get above 60 it doesnt feel any quicker than a 1.2 16v.

what "hybrids" are you talking about exactly ? the 182 ? if so then if you really think the dci has more power/faster then your living in a dream world, cant argue with the mpg tho :)

Look at it this way mate, you are buying a car under warrenty, if anything goes wrong all yu have to suffer is the inconvienience of nt having it for a while.

With my RSI i have had no end of probs, for whihc i have had to foot the bill for them all

Only two things bother me about the car going wrong:

1, I cant get to work without a car. No work = no money = no car. No one pays £13.5k or £300 a month (if they get a loan) on a car only to have to phone up work every other week and say they cant get in.

2, The dealers scratching and generally ****ing up my car whilst its in for repair. The more time it spends out of my hands the more likely it is to get damaged. Where is it now? Are people brushing past it and scratching down the side? Are birds sh1tting on it and the dealer not washing it off immediately? Is it parked on the side of a road waiting for a car to take the mirror off?

ok in answer to number 1, dont buy a car any car as no car is 100% reliable not matter what make it is, brand new or 2nd hand.. use public transport lol ;)

in answer to number 2, dont buy a brand new car then of any type infact dont even buy a good 2nd hand 1, buy an old banger then if any thing does happen what does it matter its an old banger!

no garage sets out to damage your car while it goes in to get things fixed but sh*t happens be it a main dealer or a back street or anytype, some will admit to doing it and some will not and you will have to fight to get it sorted, if your looking for the perfect car/garage then you will be looking for alooooong time as it does not exsist :)

Ok latest news. It will be one week tomorrow morning since they claimed that the engine management light came on.

Called the broker this afternoon at 4pm. They in turn spoke to the Renault dealer who are going to get back to them. The broker said they would ring me back as soon as they hear something from Renault but the broker is going home at half five so if I hear nothing by then it wont be until tomorrow.

Looks like its gonna be tomorrow. My workmates husband who is a Renault mechanic said if it was just a sensor failure it would have been fixed in a couple of days at most so looks like there is more to their story than meets the eye. Certainly doesnt take a week to fix these things.

I have effectively been the owner of the car for a week, its lost about £2000 in depreciation and I have never seen it let alone driven it!!!!

  Yaris Hybrid

They are sticking to their story about the engine management light although I have asked them to clarify exactly what they did to fix it.

Apparently they had to move the car from some distribution centre to their dealership in Southampton for fixing hence the delay and they will get back to me on the exact nature of the fault and the solution. The woman played it down and said it was something really simply but we shall see.

Been given a delivery date of next Tuesday morning....

  Yaris Hybrid

Well here I am sat at my PC playing the waiting game. The car has to come up from Southampton to Bristol where I live. The driver was leaving first thing apparently.

Thats a long way for a Clio to go without breaking down...

Ive got my checklist that I printed off from this site sat out in the garage with a pen so I can make sure everything is in order. Trouble is it is drizzling outside so gonna be hard to check for body work damage. Annoying really as this is the most likely fault given that the car has been hanging around for weeks with a dealer. Dunno where I will stand if I find a scratch tomorrow when the sun comes out.
Actually according to weather.co.uk for Bristol the sun aint due to come out until next Wednesday!!!! Then it rains again next Thursday!

  Yaris Hybrid

Still no sign of it! It was supposed to be leaving Southampton first thing this morning for delivery by 12!!! Good job I took the whole day off and not a half day!

Wonder if it will turn up at all!

  Yaris Hybrid

Ok alumunium plastic looking trim to the right of the steering wheel is scratched. Probably by keys.

Worse though is that the front splitter is smashed to f**k. Hard to notice it at first, it is cracked almost right through in two places and not properly in place. Looks like a five year old fitted it. Have reported it and Renault will call me later to get it into my local dealer for fixing.

I had pre-empted this by booking next week off work....

Havent found anything else wrong - yet. Only one bottle of tyre-fix stuff but I do have a fire extinguisher and the broker gave me a set of their mats as well as the Renault mats. Quickly drove the car, seems ok but didnt take it over 4.5k so not particular fast compared to my old Vectra but we shall see when its run in.

Its filthy after being driven up from Southampton so I am going to wash it best I can now (still pi**ing down) and see whats underneath the grime.

Glad its finally arrived.

And im sure the dealers can fix any niggling issues for you.

Im gonna start the countdown to mine from next week lol
Get some pics up when you get a chance :)

  172 Cup

When I went to collect my first 172 (mk2) the pcb had gone in the dash meaning no speedo, rev counter, computer etc... I asked if it had been through a pre delivery check and they assured me it had.

They even wanted to to drive the car home while they "would see when they could fit it in"

  Yaris Hybrid

Ok on top of the splitter being smashed to f**k and the aluminium strip being scratched, there is also grey paint on the drivers side door on the bottom half. Hard to describe, looks like someone had a rag with grey paint on it and brushed it against my car. Cant try and T Cut it cos its absolutely belting down. Impossible conditions for trying to find stuff.

I havent even gone under the bonnet yet.

From what I have seen so far the performance is no where near special enough to warrant this trouble.

  Tappd'd RS

the engine should ease off toypop, you probably wont get an idea of its performance until about 1,500 miles, The Type-R took even longer to free up !
