Sleeper Build

As a few people know I have been going on about doing a conversion on my car for a while now. Either that or buying a new car.
Now before I start I am gathering info so I can add up prices on the conversion and a different car, therefore buying a 172/182 is not what I am after.
Anyway, I have the car looking as I want it;

Few things left to do are;
Clear side repeaters.
French sytle plates.
and maybe white mirror caps and white badges.
Now, the conversion kit comes with the 172 engine, looms, gearbox,ecu, subframe, brakes, suspension etc. Leaving the engine pretty standard at first till I decide on if i should just do breather mods, cams route or the whole 9 yards and go with ITB's.
So looking for info on the following;
Exhaust options,
Filter,
Suspension set up,
and brakes.
Exhaust- I like the look of the gdi cut in one and the pro speed. Obv would prefer off the shelf so I can order it straight in. Looking for something quiet under normal driving, getting louder when booting it but still able to hear induction noise. Opinions....
Filter- love the noise of open cones but obviously not good for performance. So any info on the best of both worlds? enclosed but still noisy. Simota? BMC? only one i would not consider is a viper.
Suspension- now this is where it gets tricky. If i bought a suspension set up to go on the car, how much less would I have to pay for the conversion kit from MATT BLACK? excluding the suspension if you know what I mean. Anway, would prefer to keep away from coilovers due to ride issues but would still like a good 40mm or more drop. Are there any good springs and dampers suitable. If not, what are good value for money coilovers? nothing to brake the bank like LEDA's.
Brakes- looking for a good value for money setup. Cant justify the money for 4pots as I will not be hammering the brakes. Are there any good setups where you can buy discs, pads and lines etc as a kit?
And finally, as the new engine will be out of a car, it will be the best time to service it. Standard cambelt replacement, what oil and spark plugs etc would you reccomend? Also standard clutch ok?
All info welcome,
Cheers

If the engine is out of the car, i would fully service it. Do all the belts. Clutch change would be a good idea aswell. IMO

how old are you?

Priced up i'd image you'll be payin not shy off 10k for the conversion at the '9yard level'

Worth it....Nae chance.

Im 18.
I have the money for the conversion. Chances are il do the f4r conversion and be happy with it like that. ITB's is just dreaming and would need a lot more saving. Iv only saved up enough for the engine conversion, not the itb's yet. That would be the next step.
I know people think Im mad for wanting 2 litre power at this age but i have had experience driving fast cars and i never push anything too hard so il be ok :)

Try insuring a 172 then add about say....600 to it for the conversion...If they'll cover you.

Not to piss on your bonfire son, but your dreamin...( I did it too whan i had my 1.2)

Save your cash for now!

Iv had insurance quotes and its really not too bad.
As you say, save my money. This is all just gathering info for now. If i decide not to do this, il be getting a cooper s. I prefer the cooper s as a car but think this project would be a bit of fun.

why dont you just buy a faster car? 2.0 clios arnt the fastest things ever you know. Plus when you sell it you will get hardly anything back for it

Great cars. Iv been thinking of getting a standard Cooper S and getting the Lohen tuning package to 225bhp. My mate has a Cooper which has been cam'd, great gains, solid car and the noise from his K&N typhoon is unreal.

You'll get to the point where you want a car thats fast, relaible...and STD! lol Tunin does nothin for me now, Sure i don't mind a wee exhaust providing it's quiet but Headwork, cam's, porting, TB's, coilovers, 6 pots etc...Sac that!

I reckon il always have a modified car. Even when Im working full time after uni, il always have a weekend car or something. Just love everything about it. Im sticking to ze germans for my everyday car once im earning a proppa salary.

Waste of money converting it, you can get a decent ph1 172 for £3500 now.
Car looks mint in its current state, if I was you I would just keep it for another year to build up no claims, fun little cars the 1.2 16v's, I miss mine sometimes.
You could drop it on a set of eibachs, strip out the back (but make sure it will all go back in for when you sell) and fit a couple of secondhand bucket seats, would make a mint first car then.

Not looking to buy a ph1 172. not my thing. If i decide to get a different car, im looking for a really nice car, good build quality, good looking, good performance and a bit flashy=Cooper S :)

I had one for three years- I would keep your clio for now.

Dont even think about buying one unless it is new or under warrantee -- you would not believe how expensive parts are.

Be prepared to spend lots of money running a cooper s.

Tyres -- they are runflats and they are appalling- you will hate them and want to change them imiediately- thats £600- £800. The front tyres dont last long on the mini - I was changing every 1500 miles.

Brakes- They are shite, I was going through all four pads in under 3000 miles.

Servicing - be prepared to pay anything between £400- 800 a year.

Petrol - it eats the stuff

Since I'm assuming your gonna use the 172 hubs then the saving form not gett the suspension are minimal.

IMo get the coilovers and spend a lot of money or keep with stock.

Yozzasport does the ds2500 kit which is popular and incluides lines etc.

SAAs for service chnage it all IMO. IF your gonna do the cambelt hnage the cams as otherwsie when you choice to install cams you'll have to chnage the belt again.

Stock plugs are the best

Oil any decinet fully synthetic 5-40 or 10-40 if fine. If your not tracking it.

I'd personaly change the clutch and thrust bearing as otherwise its a big job to chnage it when its all in the car again. There only cheap.

conversions only worth it if your doing it yourself tbh.

when i done my engine i changed oil & oil filter, plugs, air filter, coil pack, clutch, clutch cable, cambelt and water pump, aux belt along with new suspension bushes, suspension top mounts, track rod ends etc felt like a brand new car once i took it to get set up with the new coilovers etc

tbh im not convinced coilovers are worth the extra money over the stock 172 dampers and sportline springs, ive not tried H&R's i only had FK Konigsports which were still awesome but not convinced they were miles better, it was only a 1.2 16v tho!
