Sloppy gears

So I attempted to swap my gear stick to one with a ph1 gear knob I did the swap but found that there was a lot of play so decided to swap back my original one but now I've got the exact same issue whereas before I did the swap over my original one was perfect with no play any ideas guys what's happened?

I can still get all gears when driving

Would this make any difference if its ripped the rubber boot

look at the white bush on the bottom of the box.

But the play seems to be where the rod connects to the bottom of the gearstick, and it doesn't make sense as to why it was perfect before I messed about with it
