Smelly Golf GTI

Car  An old banger!
I have a smelly MK5 GTi

I purchased the vehicle in March and it has always had a damp/musty smell to the interia.

I have fixed what looks like a blocked drain in sunroof but now have a nasty damp smell that doesn't seem to shift.

I have used a Daktota odour bomb but that made no difference after a week or so.

What are the best cleaning products for the cloth seats and the carpets?

If my self valet doesn't work I'll sell her.

Thanks in advance.

Guy

Yeah was going to say Daniel is the best person to ask. He's dealt with some proper rotters.

You got a thread for the car?

Cheers all,

Rug doctor/wet vac sounds like a good idea - I think I'll rent one for a day next week.

Any recommendations for carpet cleaners?

You want some Autosmart Bio Brisk. Worked wonders on my smelly Recaros.

These two?

Whip the seats out front and back mate and get stuck in from the bottom up!

If this were a RenaultSport you wouldn't have a problem as they all have 'the smell' lol.

I think that's the route I'm going to have to go. Although drivers seat is electric and looks a little tricky to remove but I'm sure it can be done.

Has anyone used an ozone generator for stuff like this. Apparently ozone is meant to sort any bad smells .

Not used it myself but people that know about it swear by it .

Think there's instructions on the bottle of how to use it. Just dilute as stated, spray on then keep the area you sprayed as damp as possible. When I did my seats, I just put some damp microfibers over them.

You sure you haven't got any wet carpet anywhere? Boot floor or behind the dash perhaps?

We found a slight leak that appeared to be dripping near the fuse box but this seems to have stopped since we cleared one of the drains under the sunroof.

In all honestly the damp smell appears to be going it just needs a good freshen up.

Indeed it is especially on a 2007 registered model as the colour (Laser Blue) was discontinued in 2006

I know i was goin to buy one in that colour years back missed out . Will be worth a lot in years to come . like it a lot ! . Poor door deals may be causing your damp they have issues with them on mk5s..

Will let you at the weekend once it’s had a good interior clean haha. Yes good little car that’s just a my little run around
