Snapped Eibach

  172, Westfield
Post on behalf of my brother - Took his 172 mk2 into Renault today for a service and they tell him one of his rear springs has snapped - explained the strange handling he thought he was getting!

He got eibach pros on there which are approx 2 yrs old - anyone else had this problem with the eibachs?!

Surely they are expected to last longer than this?

Don't suppose you can buy new rear springs without the front can you?! Look on K tec etc it doesnt look like it, but didnt really expect to be able to.

ANother £150 for in effect one spring seems harsh however!!!

  VW ....
i would look into the warranty .... sounds very odd for one of these to snap .... must be faulty goods :S

TUV approval anyone? Send them back they should sort you a replacement as this is a highly dangerous failure.

Cheers guys

- Looks like his best bet is to speak to Eibach - says he will give them a call tomorrow so will see what happens!

My friend's Ford Ka had snapped spring before at front left side. His wife weight more than 240 pounds I think :p

He spoke to Eibach today....apparently they have never had this happen before!

They are sending out 2 new rears on Monday.

Fast and efficient service from them though!

It is quite a common thing for the 172s though isn't it where water collects?

yup on the fronts, don't think the rears have that problem though?

Asked him to contact retailer he got them through, who in turn then contacted eibach, and eibach arranged to send replacement to the retailer.

Told him to esnure he had his original invoice, but as yet have not asked to see it.

We put renault springs back on last night on the rear until the replacements come through Monday, and I know prolines arent the biggest drop, but at the moment its got the 4X4 look!!
