So I played Forza 3 for the first time online...

I never got into Counter Strike. I tried it a few times when they updated it with the Source engine, but by then, every single player was a veteran. I had no idea what I was doing. It didn't go well :D

That's the whole problem, games that focus around devoting your life to it. I can sort of understand why they do it, as unemployed Americans will spend 20 of 24 hours on it trying to be the best. However for 90% it ruins the experience as they never rack up the hours to get the 'rewards' that these nerds get.

why shouldn't people be rewarded for putting the hours in? for example, if you join a lobby in mw2 where everyone is prestige and you are level 2, then surely common sense tells that you'll get your pants pulled down. if you want better weapons, just play more, simple really, everyone started at the same level.

Its like playing a round of golf with Tiger woods and asking him to play using one hand and some left handed clubs. Why should he?

Yeah, but wouldn't it be more fun to play with Bob from accounts instead of getting your arse kicked constantly? Lol.

A lot of this is due in no small part to the introduction of the gay achievement/medals/gamer points culture than the current generation consoles introduced. It was simple in the olden days and there was never anything to prove. It was just fun pwning n00bs with headshots. These days you get console gimps playing 25/7 so they can show off some new rank or medal or weapon. Congratulations. Now, f**k off and finish your homework.

Yeah - definitely think that whilst the achievements are worthwile, rewarding people with weapons and benefits that make the game easier is stupid. Just give them a badge or something, 'You got 20 headshots, have a badge' rather than 'You got 20 headshots, now have this scope that means you can do it from Usbekistan'.

Can't be arsed to go back to Clart's post to quote it but basically why should someone EVER be rewarded for wasting their life on a console to that extent? Surely this could partially be blamed for the culture that exists currently of fat, lazy teenagers/20 year olds because they HAVE to have that top weapon.

One of the guys at work's bird's sister got a job for the first time in her life a few months ago. She worked for 3 weeks, until she could afford a PS3. Then jacked her job in so she could play that.

What. The. f**k.

Medal of Honor was where it was at with a group of known players. Closed, passworded deathmatch, dedicated server running on one PC (usually mine because I always had the best hardware lol). Some of the best maps mankind has ever seen. No teenagers let alone American ones.

Sigh...those were the days

Yup, when gaming was about having a laugh with your mates, not about getting that next acheivement in the list. Lock-ins at work, crack the Stella out and the lights down, cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

:boring: fcuk me you 2 are like a pair of old women. Here's an idea, if you don't like it don't play it?

The trouble is, it's a good game with massive online potential, let down by the desire to ruin the lives of American kids because that's what sells the next title in the series. And it's why 'proper' PC games are nowhere to be seen. The one glimmering hope has been diluted with a desire to make money (Crysis).

Bring back UT.

I dont understand what everone is moaning about with Forza, if your car is in A class... it can only go so fast? As long as it is upgraded to the full 600, the other person can only go so fast, so, it might be quick in the straights but s**t in corners.... vice versa.

Yes, they are veterans on there which play all day every day, but thats just online gaming, its a challenge? I thought that was the point, to try and beat better people?

The point I was trying to make was that with Forza it's impossible to gain Exp points because there's always 1 person who's quality and storms ahead, making it very difficult to even finish... joke tbh

i never understood people who b**ch about the unlocks in CoD and how that stops them from winning.

what people have to remember is that there can be 15-20 people in a game and only one person gets the top score... mummy and daddy have been letting people win too much.

if people are that bothered about getting bum fucked then dont get runnning full pelt towards the enemies lol

All those moaning about cod and forza etc did you used to throw your toys around or kick the ball away when you lost at football i nthe playground.........

"mummyyyyyyyy its not fair he keeps beating me"

If you dont like it dont play simples

I totally agree.

Most of the whiners tend to be sore losers all round anyway.

Have played online pc and consoles for years but dont whine if i get beat constantly, i just learn the game and get better. I was constantly getting DNF on Forza 3 but just kept playing and eventually started getting decent results.

Its easy to whine and quit.

Personally I don't play either of them online so don't really care. I just think the reward systems in general are gay. I'm likely to be playing Forza online at some stage though.

lol. He wouldn't. But if you played him, it would most likely be stableford to even the playing field, would it not? ;)

I can see both sides of the argument, tbh.

I don't have endless hours to practice and get good. Maybe a couple of hours every couple of weeks. But then I have no interest in 'getting good'. It's a game. I want to pick it up every now and then and have some fun. Not get shot to s**t by some pro who clearly spends several hours a day, every day of his life chasing medals and achievements. You should be placed in 'quick matches' by level imho. There should be a beginners/casual gamers lobby or something.

I don't even bother with live much anymore, unless a couple of my mates are up for a game.

Anyway... seems there enough of us on here for a n00bs only invite match lol... I haven't even taken the cellophane of my copy of MW2, so I'll be fair game for even the ones that are struggling lol

Tbh if you were good at Forza 1/2 (or racing games in general) and the same applies to COD then you should be fairly good at the latest ones from the off and if you were s**t on those the chances are you will be s**t on the latest ones.
The only real difference is that you have to learn the new tracks/maps imo. Just more of the same!

My observations from my first proper online gamng experience:

- Most classes have an almost unbeatable car/tune, drive anything else and it's a lonely race. Should be public lobbies with single make races to make it about driver skill, I played about 20 races today and only had competitive battles in 2 or 3 of them.

- People cheat, a lot. Plenty of shortcuts dotted around tracks that don't slow them down or penalize them in any way.

- People in faster cars get really pissed when you overtake them. Happening to me a lot, i'm very consistent so often pass much quicker cars gradually during a race that have crashed off at some point...almost without fail they take me out when they catch me, despite the fact they have the power to do me on the next straight easily.

I've not really seen any benefit from racing cleanly yet, spending half a lap on someones ass to find that perfect passing opportunity - only for them to run you off the track at the next braking point when you've passed them...it all feels very pointless.

All those comments go back to what Munson said a few posts ago. If you get a closed off, select group of players, then racing (or any other form of online gaming) can be great and really enjoyable.

It's the idiots, who like you say, can't bear the thought that they are getting beat - and rather than attempt to play the game properly, they just do you over in-game, just to regain the lead.

A side-effect of that for me is when you're trying to 'learn' how a game plays and because you haven't got up to the playing standard of the other players in like 32secs, they are instantly vote-kicking you?! Like WTF - give us a feckin' chance! Strangely, I've found the French players to be the worst for this - they really are intolerant of people not keeping up with them - lol.

I'm getting kicked a lot, ironic considering I've only ever caused one incident. I wouldn't mind if I was super slow, but despite much slower fastest lap times I'm often getting up to 2nd or 3rd by the final lap through consistency...it's then that they bash me off the road and I end up last.

I don't play Forza online, in fact don't really play anything online, just can't stand 'other people'. But, if you play with a few mates, or at least 'known quantities' it can be really good racing. We knock each other off occasionally, but at least it's accidental (most of the time, Powey).

Whats your tag Chris. You really should get on with us...tight racing (often braking last minute right up behind people without colliding) and no real contact unless unavoidable

Think we are going GTA tonight but probably tuesday would be a good day...amazing games of 'it' the other night as well..great fun lol
