Sony Vaio ram upgrade

Morning,

After having a good look through Google and here I can't really find out what I need to know.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG - 7144M with 1GB of RAM and after looking on here it seems that is a very small amount of RAM. Its also running Windows Vista and isn't too slow but not that fast. I have been looking on several website but i can't find the RAM i need for my laptop, or which one would be a noticeable upgrade for me.

Here are the codes on top of my RAM:

MECEG421PA
0101
DDR2-8005 1gb

Am i right in saying i only need to change the part circled in red?

Now im really confused, I have just right clicked on my computer and had a look at how much ram i have and it's saying 3gb.. Yet it is only saying 1gb in the picture above.

Use the memory scanner, it'll tell you what you've got and what you need.
