Sorry, another Cambelt question.....

  2010 Jetta TDi 140
Evening all,

My 2004 172 is overdue a belt change. I'm planning on getting this done within the next couple of months along with the dephaser as it's just started making noise on tickover.

My question is, are there any other parts that are normally replaced due to wear during the belt change that I should budget for? I'm just trying to avoid any financial surprises while it's in bits in the garage!

I will be using a Renault specialist, maybe NW Performance.

Thanks for any replies, Chris.

I'd personally go to Birchdown.
Aux belt kit
Cambelt Kit
Dephaser,

Done i think, unless it requires anything else.

i dnt know about the F4R engine,
but on my 1.2, the water pump was only a few extra bolts whilst everything was off so might be worth getting that done.

and overdue cambelt is like russian roulette mate.
mine only lasted 2000 miles past the recommended milage on my 1.2 before snapping.

get it done ASAP mate. thats the best way to aviod finacial suprises!
snapped belt on F4R = many pennies!

very very rare for the waterpump to be an issue, and it's also not cambelt driven. I'd suggest Birchdown would be the only logical choice for your location, maybe not the cheapest in the area, but the job will be right

Definately get the full cam and aux kit. There was a huge chunk missing off of my old aux tensioner roller and it fell to bits in my hand! Lucky escape.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have had a few quotes today from specialists on here for the cam belt kit, aux belt kit and dephaser (inc oil change)

I'm hoping to have all the work done before the end of this month as I now feel like I'm driving a ticking bomb!!

Also, I'm fitting new rear discs, pads, wheel bearings etc this friday as these have gone also. These cars are excellent to drive, but this one will have cost me nearly £1k since I bought it last October! I've had many different cars, including E36 328i Sport, 306 GTi 6, Megane, Corsa C SRi, Fiesta Zetec S and Mondeo's plus more. None of these cost anywhere near this in servicing, but I suppose none were as fun to drive!

I sourced the parts myself and got my local Renault specialist garage to do it. Cost me 550 in total and got the cambelt kit auxiliary belt and tensioner, along with the water pump. The water was fine in all fairness l, but if the belt is off you might as well change it.
