sorting a scratch

Afternoon all. Ive trying to sort a scratch out on my wing, and gone for the cheap DIY method. I've filled the key scratch with paint using a toothpick, and have tried meg scratch x to level off the paint and remove excess paint around the scratch. However its not shifting very well, and i was after another product/ method of leveling the paint? Anything.....

Use fine wet n dry 1500 or 2000 grit , let the wet n dry do the work , minimal pressure applied then use the scratch X .
