soundproofing

looking into quietening down the mx5 and also reducing some of the heat from the transition tunnel.

soo i start looking at sound proofing and its complicated Asphalt flashing is bad i get that
but butyl with asphalt filler isnt too bad

but butyl is the best great but what brand offers best compromise damplifier seems to get great reviews etc but most of the reviews are old and it seems alot of the competitors products have changed from asphalt to butyl now but they dont say if its a mix or not :(

i dont want it dropping off in the pannels !

any advice you lot

Get some real sound deadening. Like dynamat or max mat, second skin. They all do "road noise killer" versions.
Although they're quite dear they are undoubtably worth the expenditure!
Try this...

On top of this...

You'll need a few packs of the top one to cover the entire doors and firewall area. (if thats where you choose to deaden.)
Or this for bonnet and other area's like that.

Or this is good heat retardant stuff.

Again these 2 should be used in conjunction with a dampner, like the second link.

Liquids can be used to replace the "bulk kit" (link 2) dampner.
However in my experience they're nothing like as good, unless you chuck on loads of layers. Thus costing you more than the "bulk kit"

Thats a sludge which i have seen used, it's ok, but allows a lot of vibrations to pass. If you have lots of time, 4 layers of this would be about the same deadening effect as the dampening foam and foil method.

Many of the top brands do this sort of stuff. I just used second skin as an example. Dynamat, etc.. have similar products, which are just as effective.

basically i was going to do the doors and seal them then rear firewall and work down and do the floor then see from there
