Spare key question ??

this may sound like a really weird question but i would like a spare key for my clio but i dont want to pay the 160 odd pound price tag for one.

would it be possible to just get a key cut that could only open the car by the lock and not start the engine. So therfore i wouldn't need to pay for the electronics in the key to stop the imbobiliser, i would just need to get the key cut to match the lock on the door

Yep very cheap and easy to do its a good idea if you surf or do anything where you need to lock the car just cannot carry the proper key which might be damaged.

Only a few quid any lock cutting palce can do it.

Be aware, I went to Timpsons and they said that they couldn't cut a key and not code it as it was against the law, apparently.

They were only charging £30 though, and I think they could do most keys.

Might be worth a look?

how much do renault charge for just the key fob with a blank blade ( which i would need to get cut )

iirc the blades are about £6 or £7, i had one one done for my old mk1 clio and it was £9 (with trade disc) hope thats of some use

Key fobs £50ish I think the key is £12ish (cut).
