Spare wheel rattle!

Anyone else got a rattling spare wheel?

Since I got the 172 there has been a very loud rattle from the rear of the car which I put down to rear headrests and backboard.

Last night I took out the spare and tools and all of a sudden there is no rattle in the rear of the car.

ps. My spare is an alloy spare and wasnt provided by Renault as the spare that came with the car was too small (didnt fit over the brake calipers)

I reckon Ill get a can of foam and only put the spare in on long trips

Sounds very much like Renault to give you a spare that doesnt fit!!!!

Join AA/RAC etc.

No spare, foam cans - its the only way, the Cup way.

Cut out a piece of carpet the size of the wheel, and lay the wheel on that. Then put everything back. It stopped the rattle on mine.

Well I didnt buy the car from Renault, I bought it from Honda, and it came with non std 16" wheels.

Does anyone know if the mk1 172s came with 5 alloys or 4 alloys and a steel spare.

Our Mk1 172 has an alloy spare.

That would explain why I had an ill fitting spare...the previous owner must have sold off all the original alloys when he put on the 16" and just put in a std Reno spare...what a nob!

OH NO !!!!!!! someone has nicked my spare wheel !! LOL!
