Speedline 2020 mag.wheels for my non tracked Cup ?

  RS RIP
Hi all, i can get some of these for a reasonable price, not damaged. Am liking the 7,4kg weight of these + the looks ofcourse

But ive been using the searchbutton and found some threads; It seems opinions differ, some saying they will bend and get briddle ?

I do'nt drive my car daily but i like getting it out of the shed a couple of times a week for some good thrash runs...

Will i be okay with these 500 pound rims or should i not take the risk ?

here's the one thread i found where people put down magnesium;

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=355709&highlight=offset+speedline+corse&page=7

i know way back in the day we used magnesium "trucks" for our skateboards in the halfpipe , they were a no-no for street skating.. (more concrete grinding etc.)

But i was thinking when street-skating the material would more easily pop or break ; not bend ?

(trucks being the parts with the wheels on; axels )

dont know about magnesium wheels and the strength of them...

but street skating with magnesium trucks is a bad idea because the magnesium is softer, it would grind away. grinding wont be an issue on a car, so its more of a question of flexing etc.

^^ yep, but flexing would be majour issue in the race- scene so what is the prob when using them for road use ?

Fred, Edde, Englebert , anyone else please ?

magnesium wheels are fine if specified for road use...competition wheels are made purely for competition and aren't usually durable enough for high mileage road use.

Lots of the race teams used the standard 2118's anyways, as much cheaper to replace and have multiple sets of, and didnt bend in a pile-up.

Have heard quite a few stories of mag wheels buckling over pot holes for road use, cant recall where from though.

If you can get some cheap its worth a shot, id put some semi slicks on them and use them as your track wheels! Be perfect for trackdays.

^^ yes when i went over to have a look they had loads of the 2118 alu wheels stacked up, also the cars had them fitted.

He had just one set of magnesiums left. This got me thinking . Wonder how these wheels , when fitted, will take a week of being parked ? When stacking them seems to give problems .. hmm

but then again they are also used in the rallye sport so must be very strong.

Think i may give Speedline a call before i decide to spend another $$ on something that wo'nt last

Nope, OZ superleggera are 6,4 for example

But when looking at both i think the 2020 are a lot stronger constructionwise, and the looks of the 2020 are much nicer

Just got off the phone, they told me these wheels will probably outlast the car + to just put them on and go do the 24 hour of Lemans with them haha :approve: They will be absolutely fine for daily use, one of the strongest Speedlines they sell.
ahh more to spend ..
