Speedline 2020 vs standard 172 cup wheels and a few other questions

  MKV Golf GTi (240bhp)
am looking at buying a 172 cup with Speedline 2020 wheels.

just had a few questions really, would there be any noticable difference in handling with these wheels and having the car on eibach lowering springs vs the standard setup

have spoken to my insurance company who have mentioned that these mods will cost me an extra £200 per year which deosnt seem too much.

im sure there are people who wouldnt mind swapping with the standard wheels but am not that up for the stress involved.

also would i notice a big difference in a car around the same age with slightly less miles that has never been driven on the track, ive been told that its been round the nurburgring once - but i think the car has been propperly looked at and has had its last service in the last year at yozzasport.

im guessing that if there were any major problems with the car this would ahve been flagged up in the service.

the car that im looking to buy has also got a rumbling noise coming from the engine bay. i am really not sure what it is, but am guessing its not going to be an expensive fix, the current owner mentioned that it could be a bearing or an engine mount, if so would this be expensive to fix or has anyone had any similar problems

sorry for the long post - any help would be great

cheers

basiclly apart from looks would there be any positives in terms of handling and pace with the speedline 2118's (i thought they were 2020's but are actually 2118's)

any advice would be great

cheers

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
handling is improved with the eibachs, car sits very slightly lower, not so much body roll. are the 2118's in 15"? everybody seems to differ on different size wheels (the 16-17" arguement always rages on), if you are a keen driver you wil notice a difference, steering may feel 'sharper' in 15". with both these mods though, unless you have driven a standard car you cant compare. as for the noise, would the seller mind you popping in to a garage?

This is Davy's cup?

IMO 15" are the best wheel size for handling and acceleration. Tyres are also much cheaper and the ride is better.

yea its davys car - i think im definetly going to pick it up! - the only problem ive got is with this rumble noise - but dave has been great and deosnt mind me taking it to a garage

the wheels are 15's

does anyone have an idea as to what this rumble could be?

Aye, sounds like bearing or engine mount or summat. More info needed though really!

Car handles beter on the 15's, more go kart like. If you dont like em, is an easy enough step to swap for someones turinis ;)
