Speedo cable

Can any of you guys help me with a problem i have with the speedo on my 52 plate 172 cup? I haven't owned the car for too long but when i first drive the car the speedo always works, but during the drive the speedo stops working. Sometimes it starts again, sometimes not, but after parking up and leaving it for a while, it will work again for a bit. I haven't actually jacked the cup up and looked yet, as i was hoping one of you knowledgable chaps might point me in the right direction. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

they don't have a cable, they have a speedo sensor on the back/top of the gearbox, and renault being renault, its sat next to the exhaust manifold, so when it gets hot enough the sensor will go on strike

there's a heatsheild that clips over the sensor, check yours is still in place

If it isn't there you might buy some heatshield material and wrap it round (Merlin Motorsport sell it).
